This program is limited to 300 people and is open to physicians, mid-level practitioners/<br />

allied health professionals, medical students and fellows, as well as critical care nurses<br />

and managers involved in the care of cardiovascular patients. Registration begins at<br />

6:45 am. The program runs from 7:30 am to 3:00 pm. Lunch will be served.<br />

Educational Objectives<br />

By the end of this activity participants will be able to:<br />

1. Identify patients at risk for CHF in primary care practices, appreciate the subtlety in CHF patient<br />

presentations, initiate an appropriate CHF patient work-up and therapy, and understand the role of<br />

CHF specialty referrals<br />

2. Describe the association of sleep disorders with heart disease and CHF, and review the effects of<br />

heart disease and CHF on sleep<br />

3. Review device options in symptomatic HF patients, discern appropriateness of implantation in<br />

HF patients, and explain Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy (CRT)<br />

4. Identify kidney failure in patients with CHF, and manage CHF patients with kidney failure<br />

5. List pros and cons of rate vs. rhythm control in Atrial Fibrillation (A-fib) patients<br />

6. Recognize optimum cardiac medications required for diabetic patients<br />

7. Describe the future of the Artificial Heart Program and transplantation (including VAD)<br />

8. Update on the current status of minimally invasive coronary bypass and totally endoscopic<br />

coronary bypass, and describe the complexity of the minimally invasive platform for valve surgery<br />

and its use in robotic valve surgery<br />

9. Introduce concepts and descriptions of the Affordable Care Act, formulate an idea of the Affordable<br />

Care Act’s implications on physicians and hospital systems, illustrate an acute/post-acute approach<br />

to Accountable Care, and evaluate a case study for Congestive Heart Failure Management within<br />

the context of an Accountable Care Organization<br />
