Karius and Baktus: a bilingual play for children

Jacques eats too many sweets. He is always eating white bread and chocolate, which make
Karius and Baktus very happy. The two tooth trolls live in Jacques’ mouth and they’re thrilled
when Jacques eats sugar. And when they’re happy, they spend the day singing and digging
holes in Jacques’ teeth. This may seem like fun but for poor Jacques who is in terrible pain,
it’s not funny at all. Because of all this digging by Karius and Baktus, Jacques has a terrible
toothache and he finally decides to go to the dentist. What will happen to Karius and Baktus? Will
they continue to sing and dig all day?
This is a popular children’s story from Norway written by Thorbjørn Egner. All Norwegian
children know it. The story has been translated in several languages and has become a favourite
of children all over the world. The Théâtre bilingue de Montréal has decided that the time has
come to introduce Quebec children to Karius and Baktus.

A trip to India with Michelle Ouimet

Michelle Ouimet will present her photo report and will tell us about the seven weeks she spent in
India in March and April 2009. This pleasure and humanitarian trip takes us to the north of India,
land of welcome for Tibetan refugees and home of the Dalai Lama (Dharamsala). The journey also
includes the Taj Mahal and the area’s main attractions. Organized with the support of Collège Marie
Victorin, this humanitarian project is a deeply moving encounter with people and places.

The library is giving you the opportunity to meet Sonia Alain, author of Le masque de gerfaut.
Set in 14th century France, this historical novel features two endearing characters, Anne de
Vallière and Joffrey de Knox, who marry despite being from rival countries. This is a love story
filled with adventure that takes place during the Hundred Years War. The author will tell you
about the modus operandi of her writing, her historical research and the psychological depth
she gave each of her characters. A not-to-be-missed literary encounter.

to come hear a story entitled Ficello the
deceiving scarecrow. Poor Ficello! He
reacted too quickly. However, his blunder
will slowly make him understand the
importance of respecting other people’s
property, which is the theme of this fall

Reiki with Sarah Latour

Through the placement of hands,
reiki creates harmony and destroys

to improve one’s health. It is also
a powerful meditation and
relaxation technique to
eliminate stress and
promote a sense of
well-being.
From October 8 to November 9, 2010, the library will display works by découpage artist Lise MacDonald and her students.
A vernissage will take place at 7 p.m. on October 8 to mark this important cultural event in our community.
Ms. MacDonald’s art is much more than what is called 3D cut-out or paper tole. It is a European art form dating back to the 17 th century.
It is really a sculpture on paper made from a series of images cut out with great care, burnished, painted, worked in relief and mounted on a
canvas, the back of which reflects the original image. The work is then framed in a way that makes the many sides of the sculpture stand out.
These works are unique and a pleasure for the eye.
