Non-road fuel consumption and pollutant emissions FOEN 2008 82
8.4 Forestry machinery
8.4.1 Fuel consumption
In 2005, the fuel consumption of forestry machinery amounted to 9720 tonnes, of
which petrol accounted for 25% (Fig. 42, top). The most important machine type in
terms of fuel consumption is haulers (i.e. tractors used in the forestry sector), with
4030 tonnes p.a. of diesel, followed by chainsaws with 1960 tonnes p.a. of petrol.
Development of fuel consumption from 1980 to 2020
The development of fuel consumption (Fig. 42, bottom) shows a clear shift from small
engines to those with a higher engine power. A 10% increase in consumption versus
the 2005 level is anticipated by 2020.
