Non-road fuel consumption and pollutant emissions FOEN 2008 74 8.2 Industrial machinery 8.2.1 Fuel consumption Fork lifts account for approximately half the fuel consumption in this category (Fig. 38, top). These appliances are fuelled by diesel and petrol, but some are also powered by gas (mainly propane). Due to their large size, snow groomers account for a high level of fuel consumption (15,700 tonnes p.a.), even though they only represent 4% of the inventory. Development of fuel consumption from 1980 to 2020 The fuel consumption of industrial machinery more than doubled in the period from 1980 to 2000 (Fig. 38, bottom). A slight reduction in consumption is anticipated for the next few years.
