7.1 Fuel <strong>consumption</strong> in 2005<br />
Figure 29 shows the non-<strong>road</strong> <strong>consumption</strong> of diesel <strong>and</strong> petrol in 2005 based on the<br />
calculation model. We can see that the <strong>consumption</strong> of diesel is 0.3 million tonnes in<br />
2005, or more than 6 times higher than the <strong>consumption</strong> of petrol. Thus according to<br />
the relevant energy statistics, the non-<strong>road</strong> segment accounts for around 20% of the<br />
total sales of diesel in Switzerl<strong>and</strong> (1.7 million tonnes in 2005 19 ). Road traffic accounts<br />
for most of the remaining 1.4 million tonnes 20 .<br />
Agricultural <strong>and</strong> construction machines account for the highest proportions (38% <strong>and</strong><br />
31% respectively) of overall non-<strong>road</strong> <strong>fuel</strong> <strong>consumption</strong>.<br />
