7.1 Fuel consumption in 2005
Figure 29 shows the non-road consumption of diesel and petrol in 2005 based on the
calculation model. We can see that the consumption of diesel is 0.3 million tonnes in
2005, or more than 6 times higher than the consumption of petrol. Thus according to
the relevant energy statistics, the non-road segment accounts for around 20% of the
total sales of diesel in Switzerland (1.7 million tonnes in 2005 19 ). Road traffic accounts
for most of the remaining 1.4 million tonnes 20 .
Agricultural and construction machines account for the highest proportions (38% and
31% respectively) of overall non-road fuel consumption.
