<strong>Procurement</strong> from developing countries and countries with ec<strong>on</strong>omies in transiti<strong>on</strong> by regi<strong>on</strong><br />

An analysis of <strong>United</strong> Nati<strong>on</strong>s procurement from developing countries and countries with ec<strong>on</strong>omies in transiti<strong>on</strong> by regi<strong>on</strong>,<br />

since 2005, shows that all regi<strong>on</strong>s except Latin America and the Caribbean states experienced growth in their share of<br />

procurement from the <strong>United</strong> Nati<strong>on</strong>s organizati<strong>on</strong>s. <strong>Procurement</strong> from Latin America and the Caribbean states decreased by<br />

$441 milli<strong>on</strong> from 2008 to <str<strong>on</strong>g>2009</str<strong>on</strong>g>. While Africa experienced rapid growth in procurement business with the <strong>United</strong> Nati<strong>on</strong>s from<br />

2005 to 2006, its share declined in 2007 but has since increased by $478.9 milli<strong>on</strong> in 2008 and by a further $382 milli<strong>on</strong> in<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>2009</str<strong>on</strong>g>. The Arab, Asia & Pacific and Europe & CIS regi<strong>on</strong>s have enjoyed steady growth in the period from 2005 to <str<strong>on</strong>g>2009</str<strong>on</strong>g>.<br />

Regi<strong>on</strong>al data <strong>on</strong> percentage share of <strong>United</strong> Nati<strong>on</strong>s procurement from developing countries and countries with ec<strong>on</strong>omies<br />

in transiti<strong>on</strong> show that all regi<strong>on</strong>s except the Latin American and Caribbean states have seen an upward trend in procurement<br />

business. The percentage share of <strong>United</strong> Nati<strong>on</strong>s procurement from the Latin American & the Caribbean states has decreased<br />

from 2007 to <str<strong>on</strong>g>2009</str<strong>on</strong>g> by five percent. The Asia & Pacific regi<strong>on</strong> while experiencing a decrease in procurement share from 2007 to<br />

2008 has recovered by 1.2 percent in <str<strong>on</strong>g>2009</str<strong>on</strong>g>.<br />
