COMMUNITY SERVICE
SERVICE TO OMAHA
2012-2013 UNO community service to Omaha gang intervention. This is a broad
service effort contributed by CPACS to the city of Omaha, carried
out to facilitate efforts to develop a comprehensive gang prevention,
intervention, and suppression model. I have been carrying out and
organizing the various elements of this substantial contribution to the
city. This includes:
1. “Omaha Gang Research: A Comprehensive Overview.”
Finished. Review and summary of existing gang and youth
violence-related research in Omaha:
2. “Heart of Omaha” Report. Finished. Exhaustive survey of
at-risk youth programs across the city; to include organization
name, programs, contact info, client base, and organizations with
whom they network. Work carried out by Ryan Vacanti.
3. Omaha Residents and Gangs: A Review. This will be a
survey of Omaha from 600 telephone interviews, with
oversampling in North Omaha. Timeline: September, 2013.
This data will entail a review of the OJJDP recommended
community survey for the Gang Assessment. 600 surveys will be
collected from across the city, with an oversampling in NE
Omaha high crime areas if feasible. I will work closely with
Dr. Jerry Diechert to develop and implement the survey, which
will be a telephone survey.
4. Best Practices Review. This product will be a national
assessment of gang intervention best practices, with a descriptive
comparison to existing Omaha programs. I will work with a
graduate student over the summer to complete this product.
