TRIPS IN THE REGION<br />
The region of Champagne - Ar<strong>de</strong>nne has a<br />
rich cultural and fascinating historical heritage.<br />
Besi<strong>de</strong>s more than 200 km of champagne<br />
cellars that wind un<strong>de</strong>r the surface of<br />
<strong>Reims</strong> and Epernay, the region has historical<br />
towns and impressive castles and <strong>for</strong>tresses<br />
tracing the history of France.<br />
Houses with timber frames and pastel<br />
colored fronts from the XVI century are a<br />
specialty of Troyes and create a medieval<br />
atmosphere. There are the castles of Sedan<br />
and Réveillon, where several famous writers,<br />
including Alexan<strong>de</strong>r Dumas, Marcel Proust,<br />
spent time. There is the castle of Cirey - sur-<br />
Blaise, a rustic playground <strong>for</strong> Voltaire and<br />
his friends. All are worth a visit. Sports -<br />
enthusiasts have many possibilities to go<br />
hiking in the Ar<strong>de</strong>nnes, the woods of Argonne,<br />
the valley of the Meuse, the lake of Der,<br />
etc.. Between Epernay and <strong>Reims</strong> is the<br />
regional park of the Mountains of <strong>Reims</strong>,<br />
with its characteristic vineyards and villages,<br />
is a nice place to visit. In addition, the<br />
pathways of vineyards offer fun and pedagogical<br />
gui<strong>de</strong>d tours. Through these visits you<br />
can get to know the profession of grapegrowing<br />
and wine - making and learn about<br />
how a vineyard really works.<br />
GASTRONOMY<br />
The region of Champagne - Ar<strong>de</strong>nne is very<br />
proud of its gastronomical heritage and<br />
above all of its world - famous sparkling<br />
wine: Champagne. The inhabitants of <strong>Reims</strong><br />
have invented a specialty to be served with<br />
champagne that perfectly complements the<br />
flavors of this petulant wine: pink biscuits<br />
(“les biscuits roses“). Other culinary adventures<br />
are the vinegar and the mustard of<br />
<strong>Reims</strong>, “la potée champenoise“ (a meaty stew<br />
that is a specialty of the region), “le boudin<br />
blanc <strong>de</strong> Rethel“ (white sausage of Rethel) ,<br />
and “l’Andouillette <strong>de</strong> Troyes“ (tripe sausage),<br />
and the cheese Chaource.<br />
