3M has introduced a compact clip-on
device that offers a quick and easy guide to
potential noise hazard levels, helping to
identify areas where hearing protection
may need to be worn. The 3M Noise
Indicator NI-100EU incorporates a LED
which flashes green when exposed to
ambient noise levels below 85db(A) and
red for levels above 85dB(A) – the point
above which hearing protective equipment
must legally be worn.
The noise indicator is designed to be
clipped onto a shirt or jacket. Its
rechargeable battery operates for up to 200
hours between charges and the device
incorporates an automatic turn-off system.

Fluke has introduced
a family of
clampmeters with
thinner, smaller jaws
(for easy use in
crowded cabinets),
large backlit
displays, true-rms
readings, increased
resistance ranges,
and overmoulded
cases for easier
handling and improved survival if dropped. Most of the new models are
compatible with a new range of flexible current probes that expand their
measurement range to 2.5kA AC.
The basic Fluke 373 true-rms AC clampmeter is aimed at users needing only
AC current and voltage measurements up to 600A AC and 600V AC or DC. The
374 and 375 models add min/max, average and inrush recording, with the 375
incorporating a low-pass noise filter and the ability to measure frequencies to
500Hz, as well as mV DC. The 376 model can measure currents up to 2.5kA AC
and 1kA DC and can troubleshoot noisy motors and drives. It includes the new
iFlex high-current current probe which has a big coil suitable for large or
awkward conductors, and a 7.5mm-deep profile for reaching between tightlypacked
cables. The Fluke 381 clampmeter has a detachable wireless display,
allowing one technician to do jobs that previously needed two. The clamp section
can be shut in a cabinet and the measurements read across a room while the
controls are being operated.

Modular power monitor can be expanded
Products 4 Automation has launched a
low-cost, modular power monitoring
system that can be programmed to collect
data from external devices and to provide
centralised monitoring of energy use. The
system is based on P4A’s Monitouch
programmable HMIs and can depict all
aspects of power usage.
It can monitor data from up to 31
distributed nodes measuring variables such
as power, voltage, current, and power
factor. These values can be logged at userdefined
intervals and saved in the CSV
format and, if required, exported to an
Excel spreadsheet. The simplest form of
monitoring shows graphs of expected
demand based on current values, and
displays accumulated power values. A
second level depicts measured values from
multiple power monitors at a glance. A
third level displays accumulated monthly
power data as bargraphs. Installations can
start with just a few nodes and be
expanded as needed.
