3 Introduction<br />
MAHARASHTRA<br />
<strong>Shivaji</strong> <strong>University</strong>, was established in 1962. It is named after the Great Maratha<br />
Warrior and founder of the Maratha Empire, Chhatrapati <strong>Shivaji</strong>. It was inaugurated on 18 th<br />
November, 1962 by Dr. Radhakrishnan, an eminent philosopher, educationist and the then<br />
President of India. One of the major objectives of this <strong>University</strong> is to cater to the needs of<br />
higher education in South Maharashtra. The jurisdiction of the <strong>University</strong> is spread over three<br />
districts viz. Kolhapur, Sangli and Satara with strength of over 2,19,000 studying in 261<br />
affiliated colleges and recognised institutes in its jurisdiction.<br />
This region of Maharashtra is proud of its rich and varied socio-cultural heritage. Under the<br />
innovative and social reformist leadership of Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj, the ruler of the<br />
princely state of Kolhapur, the city has been, since the beginning of this century, a focal point of<br />
higher educational opportunities for all classes and communities of South-Western Maharashtra,<br />
and northern parts of neighbouring states. This is also the land of Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil, who<br />
strived to take education to the masses through his innovative ‘Earn and Learn’ scheme. When<br />
the <strong>University</strong> was founded by the <strong>Shivaji</strong> <strong>University</strong> Act of 1962, the objectives set before the<br />
<strong>University</strong> included “making opportunities of higher education accessible to rural youth, for<br />
conducting fundamental and applied research in the field of science and humanities and to<br />
ensure regional growth and development.” Now, the <strong>University</strong> has entered into the global arena<br />
with a number of tools and products of higher education. Initially, the <strong>University</strong> started<br />
functioning with 34 affiliated colleges and about 14000 students with 5 post-graduate<br />
departments on the campus in 1962-63. Today the number of the affiliated colleges has gone<br />
upto 261 and the strength has in excess of 2,19,000, with 34 post-graduate Departments on the<br />
campus. The <strong>University</strong> imparts education in 7 major faculties of Arts and Fine Arts, Social<br />
Science, Science, Commerce, Education, Law and Engineering and Technology.<br />
During the initial two decades, the efforts were concentrated on the expansion of higher<br />
education and the establishment of new colleges in different parts of the four districts under its<br />
jurisdiction. The <strong>University</strong> consolidated its base by ‘taking education to the people’. The<br />
decade of 1980s saw a major expansion, especially in the growth of professional faculties like<br />
Engineering, Education, Management and Medicine. The recent phase of the <strong>University</strong> may be<br />
termed as “the pursuit of academic excellence,” since the <strong>University</strong> has been accredited with B<br />
grade by the NAAC. The Solapur district has been excluded from the jurisdiction of <strong>Shivaji</strong><br />
<strong>University</strong> and has now become a new <strong>University</strong> known as ‘Solapur <strong>University</strong>’ since June<br />
2004.<br />

In the last couple of years, several attempts have been made to overcome the image of<br />
<strong>University</strong> as a regional <strong>University</strong>. Several steps have been taken to raise the standards of<br />
teaching and research so as to attain the global standards in higher education. This is being<br />
achieved by exploring new areas of higher learning and research in the rapidly emerging fields<br />
like Industrial Chemistry, Space Science and Applications, Environmental Science, Bio-<br />
Chemistry, Sericulture, Computer Science, Environmental Biotechnology, M. Tech in Energy<br />
Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Environmental Science Technology, Electronics<br />
and Biotechnology in addition to the basic science disciplines. The <strong>University</strong> Departments of<br />
Physics and Economics have been recently identified by the UGC for their Special Assistance<br />
Programme (SAP) and recognised as Departments of Special Assistance (DSA). New research<br />
areas in these Departments are concentrated on Superconductors, Energy, Bio-diversity and<br />
Bio-technology, Agro Biotechnology and Agricultural & Environmental Economics<br />
respectively.<br />
The <strong>University</strong> has also established the <strong>University</strong>-Industry Interaction Cells in three<br />
districts of its jurisdiction. The Science Departments viz. Botany, Physics, Biochemistry and<br />
Chemistry have received the grants under FIST from the DST. The faculties of Arts and Social<br />
Sciences are also gearing up to meet the demands of the changing time. Establishment of Centre<br />
for Women’s Studies, Gandhian Studies Centre, School of Interdisciplinary Studies in Social<br />
Sciences, extension activities through Adult and Continuing Education and Centre for<br />
Community Development (Lok Vikas Kendra) are indicators of this change. Department of<br />
Sociology has been recently granted the UGC’s SAP, DRS phase. Departments of Sociology,<br />
Education, Geography, Physics and Economics are offering special courses in the emerging<br />
areas like Environmental Studies and Computer Application. Economics and Music<br />
Departments have started the bridge courses as regular vocational courses along with<br />
academics.<br />
The <strong>University</strong> is encouraging merit by introducing the unique scheme called ‘<strong>Shivaji</strong><br />
<strong>University</strong> Merit Scholarship’ offering 527 scholarships to meritorious students in affiliated<br />
Colleges and <strong>University</strong> Departments. It has also instituted Departmental Research Fellowships<br />
for Ph. D. students in the Post-Graduate Departments of the <strong>University</strong>. The <strong>University</strong> has<br />
made a special budget provision of about Rs. 45/- lakhs for these scholarships and fellowships<br />
out of its own funds. This <strong>University</strong> can proudly claim to be the first <strong>University</strong> in India to<br />
initiate such a unique scheme. For catering to the needs of the external students, the <strong>University</strong><br />
established the Centre for Distance Education. The international M. Tech. course has been<br />
started in collaboration with Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) (Thailand).<br />
The efforts of the <strong>University</strong> towards excellence in higher education are being recognized<br />
by the substantial grants received from funding agencies like UGC, ICSSR, DST, DBT, CSIR,<br />
DRDO, DAE, DEC etc. Another indicator of recognition of <strong>University</strong> is its collaborations with<br />

other premier institutes in the country. <strong>Shivaji</strong> <strong>University</strong> has signed MoUs with Bhabha Atomic<br />
Research Centre, Mumbai, Goa <strong>University</strong>, Panjim, Intel India and Microsoft India Ltd. It has<br />
also joined hands with Indian Institute of Geo-Magnetism, Mumbai. Industries like Phyto-<br />
Pharma have sought affiliation with <strong>Shivaji</strong> <strong>University</strong>. Besides, the <strong>University</strong> has crossed the<br />
boundaries of nations and signed MoUs with foreign institutes and Universities like Asian<br />
Institute of Technology (Thailand), Pathumthani and Khon Kaen <strong>University</strong>, Khon Kaen<br />
(Thailand), Sabargamuwa <strong>University</strong>, (SriLanka), Monash <strong>University</strong>, Melbourne (Australia),<br />
Hanyang <strong>University</strong>, Seoul and Sangkyunkwan <strong>University</strong>, (South Korea). This has opened up a<br />
new vistas for the students of southern Maharashtra in particular and the Indian students in<br />
general.<br />
The quest for academic enrichment and pursuit of excellence of the <strong>University</strong> are<br />
facilitated by efficient administration. The smooth conduct of about 381 examinations per year<br />
for over 2,19,000 students and the timely declaration of results has been appreciated by the<br />
Hon’ble Chancellor of the <strong>University</strong>. The <strong>University</strong> has maintained the high standards of<br />
general administration, prudent financial management and a cordial relationship with funding<br />
agencies.<br />
From the academic year 2006-07, the <strong>University</strong> has applied the Credit System for M. A.<br />
Economics and M. Sc. Physics. From the next academic year, the <strong>University</strong> is planning to<br />
extend this system to all post-graduate and professional courses. The add on courses with<br />
cafetaria approach are planned for courses in science and professional subjects. The odd batch<br />
scheme (October to October) for M. Phil Courses in all subjects has been instituted from the<br />
academic year 2006-07. The Departments of Education and Economics have opted for semester<br />
system with 16 papers in M. A. Course Curriculum from the academic year 2007-08.<br />
The future plans of the <strong>University</strong> include the establishment of School of Rural<br />
Management and Research, Institute of Bio-technology, Institute of Leather Technology, Radio<br />
Station, Science Park, Bio-Technology Park, various training schemes for students and the staff,<br />
etc. Keeping in view the regional needs, the need-based courses like Bachelor’s Programmes in<br />
Foundry, Pharmaceuticals, Food Sciences, Water Resource Management, Herbal plantations,<br />
etc. are planned.<br />
To get the knowledge and experience of experts in professional fields and reach out to the<br />
students the <strong>University</strong> has created ‘Adjunct Professor’ posts in the various departments and<br />
accordingly appointed in some departments.<br />
3 Distinctive Features<br />

Located on the outskirts of the historic township of Kolhapur (Maharashtra), <strong>Shivaji</strong><br />
<strong>University</strong> is situated in the lush green surroundings spread over 853 acres (356 hectare). The<br />
pleasant learning environment of Vidyanagar is coupled with the invigorating weather<br />
throughout the year.<br />
Placement Cell :<br />
In order to provide the job opportunities to the students studying in the <strong>University</strong> P.G.<br />
Departments and UG affiliated colleges. The university has established the placement cell. The<br />
placement activities are carried out by the various departments/ colleges in collaboration with<br />
university placement cell. The university has appointed placement officers in each department.<br />
With the coordination of various departments placement cell is arranging various placement<br />
activities. It aims to help the students to find the job they are looking for and also facilitates<br />
companies to conduct their recruiting procedure.<br />
Companies/Recruiters who wish to conduct placement at the <strong>Shivaji</strong> <strong>University</strong> placement<br />
cell have to fill up the Job Announcement form with their exact requirements and details of the<br />
placement procedure.<br />
Dual Degree Scheme :<br />
Dual Degree Scheme is introduced from the academic year 2007-08 as provided by<br />
Ordinance – 78. A student can keep terms simultaneously for two examinations, provided that<br />
the student should take regular admission for one of the examinations and he/she should register<br />
his/her name as external/distance education mode candidate for another examination. It is<br />
further provided that there is a no overlap/clash between the examination schedules of the two<br />
examinations. The candidate should apply to the <strong>University</strong> (Eligibility section) along with fee<br />
Rs. 1000/-, proofs of regular admission, and details, furnishing information about second course<br />
that he/she wants to complete. The detailed circular in this regard is issued to all affiliated<br />
colleges and university departments at the commencement of every academic year the same will<br />
be made available on university website www.unishivaji.ac.in.<br />
To sum up, the <strong>University</strong> which was founded primarily to cater to the regional aspirations<br />
has now geared up to transcend this regional image and has emerged as one of premier institutes<br />
of higher education and research in the country.<br />

Distance Education<br />
Distance Education is a generic term that includes the range of teaching learning<br />
strategies variously described as home study, correspondence education or independent study.<br />
It is a highly welcome step in the direction of taking education to the doors of those<br />
willing to acquire higher education but, being unable to do so owing to lack of resources or<br />
paucity of time. In India Distance Education opportunities at the <strong>University</strong> level have increased<br />
enormously. Many new trends are putting great pressure on the conventional education system<br />
forcing many institutions to review and amend their existing policies and procedures. In the<br />
light of which the <strong>Shivaji</strong> <strong>University</strong>, Kolhapur took the decision to establish its Centre for<br />
Distance Education.<br />
CETRE FOR DISTACE EDUCATIO' <strong>SHIVAJI</strong> U<strong>IVERSITY</strong>, <strong>KOLHAPUR</strong><br />
Through its External Section the <strong>Shivaji</strong> <strong>University</strong> had been providing educational<br />
facilities to over 2500 students each year since 1968, who due to various reasons were unable to<br />
join the regular courses. The External students who registered with the <strong>University</strong> were entirely<br />
responsible for their own learning and hence, fell a pray to the numerous sub standard guides<br />
available in the market.<br />
In order to enhance the quality of their education and reach out to the larger section of the<br />
society which has for various reasons remained distant from the portals of learning - be it the<br />
working class, women, housewives or those who have aspirations for furthering their education,<br />
the <strong>Shivaji</strong> <strong>University</strong>, aiming at social inclusion has opened its doors to them by proposing the<br />
Centre for Distance Education (CDE).<br />
The Council for Distance Education IGNOU, New Delhi was approached for<br />
Development Grants in 2005-06. In response the DEC sanctioned Rs. 5 Lakhs in 2005-06. Rs.20<br />
Lakhs in 2006-07, Rs. 40 Lakhs in 2007-08, Rs. 40 Lakhs in 2008-09, Rs.20 Lakhs in 2009-10,<br />
Rs.20 lakhs in 2010-11 and Rs. 35 lakhs in 2011-12. With aid of the DEC-IGNOU and <strong>Shivaji</strong><br />
<strong>University</strong> grants, currently CDE is catering to the needs of over 50,000 students. Proposal for<br />
2012-13 has been sent to the DEC - IGNOU, New Delhi.<br />
The DEC, New Delhi Committee visited the CDE, <strong>Shivaji</strong> <strong>University</strong> on 5 th & 6 th Sept,<br />
2008 and has given it provisional recognition for conducting various distance mode courses the<br />
CDE is awaiting the visit of the CDE committee to grant it permanent recognition.<br />
The Work of the CDE, commenced with the involvement of the External Section which<br />
dealt with all the communication work-inviting experts from DEC-IGNOU, New Delhi to<br />
conduct a training and orientation workshop for the course writers of Self Instructional Material<br />
(SIM) for the B.A./B.Com. subjects.<br />

The Board of Studies (BOS) was directly involved with the CDE as it was given the<br />
responsibility of confirming syllabus of the subjects for B.A., B.Com., M. A., M. Com., M.B.A.,<br />
M.Sc. (Mathematics), Master of Valuation (Real Estate) inviting the Chairperson of the<br />
concerned subjects to form a team of writers, editors and translator for the SIM. In keeping with<br />
the responsibility entrusted to them the BOS distributed the syllabus of the concerned subjects<br />
through the chairperson to writers. The writers were selected on the basis of their qualifications<br />
and experience of teaching the respective subject and concerned units.<br />
In Aug. 2007 the Centre for Distance Education came into being as an independent Unit<br />
with the appointment of the Director and Deputy Director. Gradually the BOS and External<br />
section handed over their responsibility of development of SIM to the Centre-which set about in<br />
right earnestness to fulfill its objective of providing SIM to the externally registered students of<br />
B.A.-I, B.Com.-I, & M.Sc. (Mathematics) Sem. I within a short time period of 4 months. With<br />
the UGC teams visit to the <strong>Shivaji</strong> <strong>University</strong> in September, 2008, the <strong>Shivaji</strong> <strong>University</strong><br />
transferred all the external courses to the Centre for Distance Education and declared closure of<br />
its external section.<br />
In July 2008 the Centre for Distance Education (CDE) has provided SIM in both Marathi<br />
and English for B.A.-II & III and B.Com.-II & III and for M. A. Part-I. Today students tend to<br />
go for some professional courses rather than opting for the traditional courses. The Centre for<br />
Distance Education, <strong>Shivaji</strong> <strong>University</strong>, Kolhapur is conducting professional courses such as<br />
M.B.A. and Master of Valuation (Real Estate) from 2008 to cope with the needs of students<br />
aspiring for professional qualifications. M.Sc. (Mathematics) Sem.-II, III & IV. Distance Mode<br />
Courses (i) MBA & MBA (Executive) (ii) Master of Valuation (Real Estate) were the newly<br />
constituted courses with SIM only in English.<br />
19 U.G. and 07 P.G. Study Centres have become operational for providing services to<br />
distance learners like admissions, distribution of SIM, contact sessions, counselling, library<br />
facilities etc. The U.G. Study Centres are situated in the affiliated colleges within the<br />
jurisdiction of <strong>Shivaji</strong> <strong>University</strong>. The P.G. Study Centres are operating in the 3 P.G.<br />
Departments of the <strong>University</strong>, and 4 affiliated institution in Kolhapur, Sangli and Satara. From<br />
academic year 2012-13, CDE is shifting its Professional courses study centres of M.B.A. &<br />
Master of Valuation (Real Estate) in its own premises.<br />
A New course, M. A. in Jainology & Prakrit has been introduced by CDE in 2010-11 and<br />
SIM for Part-I & II is ready. SIM for M. A. II Languages and social sciences is under<br />
preparation.<br />
The CDE has set to grow and extend its facilities of Distance Education to all those in need<br />
of it, by extending its services in 2012-13 and gradually to include new courses in Law and<br />
Mass Communication, Diploma in Translation and other need based courses.<br />

CDE has shifted to its newly constructed building in the <strong>Shivaji</strong> <strong>University</strong> campus,<br />
Kolhapur on 19 th August 2010. The building which is approximately 4700 sq. mts, is<br />
constructed with a view to establish its own and independent research unit, computer laboratory,<br />
student facilitation centre, library and reading room, stores, etc which will help CDE enhance<br />
the services and utilities provided to its distance learners.<br />
CDE is also planning to make available the library books to its distance learners. CDE has<br />
approx. 5000 books and encyclopedia on different subjects and languages. The distance learners<br />
can get benefit from these books and enrich themselves.<br />
From the Research and Development grants received from DEC, New Delhi, CDE has<br />
undertaken 54 need based minor research projects. The CDE academic staff are also encouraged<br />
to attend National and International level Seminars and Conferences organized on Distance and<br />
Open Learning in order to help and support the functioning of the CDE more efficiently and<br />
effectively.<br />
The following objectives have been formulated.<br />

4. To the working class who choose to study at their own place and pace.<br />
5. To all sections of the society irrespective of caste, religion, gender, area of origin, social<br />
and financial status etc.<br />
6. At affordable costs.<br />
7. To offer courses of study along with Self Instructional Material, contact sessions,<br />
counselling facilities, library and internet facilities through designated Study Centres.<br />
3 Our endeavor is :<br />
1. To provide an alternative non-formal channel for higher education.<br />
2. To reduce the pressure on the conventional university.<br />
3. To provide a means for continuing and life long education so as to enrich the lives of<br />
people.<br />
4. To provide venues for access to higher education.<br />
5. To democratize higher education by providing access to large segment of the population<br />
particularly the disadvantaged groups such as those living in remote and rural areas,<br />

including working people, women and other adults who wish to acquire and upgrade their<br />
knowledge and skills through studies in various fields.<br />
6. To help those who wish to improve their educational qualification and are interested in<br />
undertaking advanced studies of their interest without being required to join as full time<br />
students.<br />

Introduction:<br />
In the post globalisation period, there has been a huge requirement of trained and wellqualified<br />
manpower with a MBA degree to cater to the needs of manufacturing and service<br />
organisations. Further, the already employed professionals in manufacturing and service<br />

Why M. B. A. – (Executive) Distance?<br />
3 Potential to grow as the M.B.A. programme can be completed while continuing with<br />
one’s employment.<br />
3 Main idea is to cater to the requirement of those who could not attend the regular M.B.A.<br />
due to various constraints such as employment, lack of time to attend the regular fulltime<br />
course etc.<br />
3 The target groups are employees in institutes of higher education, banks and insurance,<br />
service organisations, SMEs and other business organisations interested in future<br />
education in Management.<br />
Aims of the Programme<br />
3 To strengthen the theoretical and conceptual knowledge base of executives.<br />
3 To help the executives to improve decision making skills, creative and logical thinking.<br />

3 On successful completion of the course, the certificate so issued would have clearly<br />
indicated that the M.B.A. (Executive) Distance mode course was completed by the<br />
concerned student in the Distance mode.<br />
Duration of the Course:<br />
The duration of the course is two years and two months divided into four semesters of equal<br />
duration.<br />
There will be semester end examination in December & April/May for each of the<br />
semesters, besides that in each semester, a student has to complete the internal assignment<br />
(term-work) as prescribed by the Centre for Distance Education.<br />

Eligibility for Admission:<br />
a) Graduate of any faculty, from any recognised university with a minimum of 50% marks<br />
(45% marks for reserved category candidates).<br />
b) Minimum two years experience at the Supervisory level/ in the Managerial cadre equivalent<br />
to class I & II post of Government.<br />
At the time of admission counseling, experience certificate from the employer and the latest two<br />
months salary certificate have to be presented for verification. Admission will stand cancelled<br />
without refund of fees, if the Experience Certificate and/or the salary certificate if found to be<br />

Why M.B.A. - Distance Mode?<br />
Young graduates about to enter the work world or those who have just entered and are keen<br />
to be successful in their careers, but are unable to attend the regular M.B.A. course along with<br />
pursuing their jobs. For these professionals Distance Mode M.B.A. is a boon as they can learn<br />
while they earn.<br />
Aims of the Programme :<br />
To prepare a young generation of Managers who are:<br />
1) aware of the need to work systematically.<br />
2) aware of the scientific and technological developments.<br />
3) capable of performing their functions backed with theoretical and conceptual clarity.<br />
4) capable of solving problems and taking appropriate decision<br />
Reference to the Distance Education mode in the Certificate Issued<br />
3 On successful completion of the course, the certificate issued would have clearly indicate<br />
that the M.B.A. Distance mode course was completed by the concerned student in the<br />
Distance mode.<br />
Duration of the Course<br />
The duration of the course is two years and two months divided into four semesters of equal<br />
duration.<br />
There will be semester end examination in December & April/May for each of the<br />
semesters, besides that in each semester, a student has to complete the internal assignment<br />
(term-work) as prescribed by the Centre for Distance Education.<br />
Eligibility for Admission :<br />

a) Graduate of any faculty and from any recognised university with a minimum 50% marks<br />
(45% marks for reserved category candidates).<br />
ADMISSIO PROCEDURE:<br />
The admission procedure is common to both the M.B.A. (Executive) Distance Mode course<br />
and the M.B.A. Distance Mode course and consists of an Entrance Test.<br />
After a candidate meets the Eligibility Criteria, the next step in the selection procedure<br />
consists of an Entrance Test.<br />
Entrance Test:<br />
Entrance Test will be conducted for admission to the M.B.A. Distance Mode & M.B.A.<br />
(Executive) Distance Mode Course in June, 2012.<br />
Entrance Test syllabus:<br />
The MBA Entrance Test will consist of 100 objective questions on aptitude,<br />
comprehension, numerical and verbal ability, data interpretation, judgment etc.<br />
Entrance Test venues: Kolhapur.<br />
The exact Entrance Test centre location(s) and changes if any in the test schedule would be<br />
displayed on the <strong>University</strong> website at www.unishivaji.ac.in.<br />
Entrance Test Merit List:<br />
The Entrance Test Merit List will be displayed on the university website<br />
www.unishivaji.ac.in and this merit list will be common for General category students and<br />
reserved category students.<br />
How to register for the Entrance Test:<br />
For registering for the Entrance Test, the candidates should use only the online application<br />
form available at http://online.shivajiuniversity.com.<br />
Candidate should take care while filling the online application form and provide their<br />
detailed postal address, including landmarks, house name / number, pin code etc else any<br />
written communication may not reach him/her in time or may be returned back without delivery<br />
as “addressee not found” etc.<br />
The candidate should also provide his/her mobile number, e-mail id in the online form.<br />
The candidate should choose an Entrance Test centre only from the Test Centres offered by<br />
the <strong>Shivaji</strong> <strong>University</strong>, Kolhapur. Once a Test Centre is chosen, change of Test Centre will not<br />
be permitted.<br />
Hall Ticket :<br />
On printing the completed online application form, the hall ticket is also printed alongwith<br />
the online form. The online form is page number 1 and the hall ticket is page number 2.<br />

Eligibility criteria:<br />
Common Educational eligibility criterion applicable to both the M.B.A. (Executive)<br />
Distance mode and M.B.A. Distance mode courses :-<br />
i) Applicant to be minimum graduate with 50% score (Open Category) or 45% score<br />
(Reserved Category).<br />
ii)<br />
Experience : Only for Executive Mode.<br />
Experience eligibility criterion applicable only to candidates wishing to apply for the<br />
M.B.A. (Executive) Distance mode course :-<br />
Candidates wishing to apply to the M.B.A. (Executive) Distance Mode course should have a<br />
minimum of two years of supervisory/managerial level experience at the time of admission<br />
counseling. This experience could be spread over different organizations but should be<br />
consecutive (without a break), and for the purpose of admission, the total of such<br />
supervisory/managerial experience duration will be considered for eligibility evaluation.<br />
When completing the Entrance Test application form, a candidate need not specify whether<br />
he/she is applying for the M.B.A. (Executive) Distance Mode course or the M.B.A. Distance<br />
Mode course. The choice for the course may be done at the time of the admission counseling<br />
and original documentary proofs (as applicable) of educational qualifications, employment<br />
experience and last 2 months salary slips / certificate have to be provided at the time of<br />
admission counseling. No certificates are required when submitting the application form.<br />
The electives offered in the second year in semester III and semester IV are different for the<br />
M.B.A. Distance mode course and the M.B.A. (Executive) Distance mode course, though there<br />
are two elective common to the two courses.<br />
A student registered for a particular course will not be allowed to change electives after<br />
registering online for the III semester examination.<br />
Lateral shift from M.B.A. (Executive) Distance mode course to M.B.A. Distance mode<br />
course and vice-versa:<br />
At a later stage, change of course from M.B.A. Distance mode to M.B.A. (Executive)<br />
Distance mode will not be permitted in any case.<br />
Before the start of the II year, change of course from M.B.A. (Executive) Distance mode to<br />
M.B.A. Distance mode, may be permitted in exceptional cases by the Centre for Distance<br />
Education. The candidate has to submit a written application to the Director, Centre for<br />
Distance Education and the change may be permitted at the discretion of the Director, Centre for<br />
Distance Education as per guidance from the <strong>University</strong>.<br />
Documents required to be attached with the Entrance Test application form:<br />

Other than the duly completed and printed online application form, original certificates<br />
should not be enclosed along with the application form.<br />
All relevant original certificates, documents and salary slips have to be produced at<br />
the time of the Admission Counseling before provisional admission is granted.<br />

Attested copy (True copy) of the Graduation Mark list. The Mark list should clearly<br />
indicate the percentage (%) marks obtained by the candidate at the graduation level.<br />
In case the student has obtained the graduation qualifications after multiple attempts, one<br />
attested copy each of all such Mark list(s) should be enclosed.<br />
Attested copy (True copy) of the Reserved Category Certificate issued by the competent<br />
authority.<br />
Two passport size photographs have to enclosed with the application form. One photograph<br />
should be pasted on the application form and signed across by the candidate. The second<br />
photograph should be stapled to the application form.<br />
Attested copy (True copy) of the Transference Certificate and/or Migration Certificate as<br />
applicable issued by the competent authority.<br />
Undertaking in the prescribed format if a copy of the Transference Certificate and/or<br />
Migration Certificate cannot be provided when applying. The undertaking format is given<br />
at the end of this prospectus.<br />

It is the candidate’s responsibility to ensure that the correct amount of Entrance Test fees<br />

Quantum of Late fees:<br />
The date of receipt at the Inward Section, <strong>Shivaji</strong> <strong>University</strong>, Kolhapur will be the<br />
reference date to decide the quantum of late fee if any. The date of posting/courier is irrelevant<br />
for deciding the quantum of late fees, hence the candidates are advised to send the application<br />
form with all specified documents at the earliest possible.<br />
If the cash paid / the demand draft amount is not inclusive of the late fee or if the amount<br />
send is short of the required fees as applicable, the candidate should pay the late fee at the<br />
earliest possible. Failure to do this, would result in the candidate’s name not being included in<br />

Collection of prospectus for candidates submitting the form in person:<br />

Mandatory requirement of Transference Certificate and/or Migration Certificate:<br />
It is mandatory for candidates who gain provisional admission to provide the Transference<br />
Certificate and / or Migration Certificate at the time of admission counseling or within 45 days<br />
from the date of the provisional admission, failing which the candidate’s provisional admission<br />
would be summarily cancelled and fees paid by the candidate will not be refunded.<br />
Within 45 days from the date of the provisional admission,<br />
the candidate has to provide Transference Certificate if the educational institution where the<br />
candidate had last enrolled/registered is affiliated to <strong>Shivaji</strong> <strong>University</strong>, Kolhapur.<br />
the candidate also has to provide a Transference Certificate and a Migration Certificate, if<br />
the educational institution where the candidate had last enrolled/registered is not affiliated<br />

In case, the candidate had last/earlier enrolled/registered with one of the Departments of<br />
<strong>Shivaji</strong> <strong>University</strong>, he/she has to give an application to the relevant department for sending<br />
the Transference Certificate and/or Migration Certificate (as applicable) to the Centre for<br />
Distance Education.<br />
Candidates who cannot provide the Transference Certificate and/or Migration Certificate (as<br />
applicable) when applying or at the time of the admission counseling will be given provisional<br />
admission and will have to provide an undertaking in the prescribed format provided at the end<br />
of this prospectus, that he/she will provide the required Transference Certificate and/or<br />
Migration certificate within 45 days from the date of the provisional admission, failing which<br />
such candidates provisional admission will be summarily cancelled and fees will not be<br />
refunded.<br />
Verification of Documents:<br />
Candidates have to produce all original certificates/documents (as applicable) including<br />
Mark list(s), Reserved Category Certificate, Experience Certificates, Salary slips etc as issued<br />
by the competent authority at the time of admission counseling.<br />
Change of name, surname if any:<br />
Each candidate with a change in name and/or surname (in particular female candidates who<br />
have married after their graduation) after successful completion of graduation (if due change in<br />
name process as per the appropriate <strong>University</strong> rules has not been completed) have to use their<br />
maiden name / earlier name while filling the online form.<br />
Only in case the due process for change in name, as per the relevant rules of <strong>Shivaji</strong><br />
<strong>University</strong> has been completed then the changed name can be used for completing the forms,<br />

ut the relevant original order (and an attested photocopy) permitting change of name has to<br />
presented at the time for admission counseling.<br />
Candidates desirous of getting their names changed should approach (at a later stage after<br />

Pattern of Examination for each subject:<br />

The duration of external examination will be of 3 hours.<br />
The internal assignment marks would be based on the assignments, centrally administered<br />
by the Centre for Distance Education for all the Study Centres.<br />
Only for the subject “Project Report and Viva” of fourth semester, the internal assessment<br />
would be for 50 marks and the external examination would be for 50 marks.<br />
Project Work:<br />
The students have to undergo practical training of 6 months in a manufacturing or service<br />
organisation in the 2 nd year and they have to submit their project report before the end of the IV<br />
semester. The project work should be a minimum of 50 pages with duly certified by the<br />
organisation.<br />
Study Centres:<br />
The Centre for Distance Education will establish Study Centre(s) to counsel and guide the<br />
candidates through out the duration of the Course by organising Contact Sessions, collecting<br />
assignments etc. Currently there are 4 Study Centres. The details are given below. New study<br />
centres will be started in the jurisdiction of <strong>Shivaji</strong> <strong>University</strong> as per requirement.<br />

Choice of Study Centre and other related information:<br />
Students are also advised that once the student chooses a Study Centre, he/she will not be<br />
allowed a change of Study Centre at a later stage.<br />
Students registered with a particular Study Centre have to submit their internal assignments<br />
to that Study Centre. The internal assignments have to be submitted on or before the due date to<br />
the relevant Study Centre. Submission may be done personally, by post/courier etc. Student is<br />
solely responsible for non-submission, late submission etc.<br />
Merger/Cancellation of a Study Centre:<br />
If a study centre has student enrolment of less than 50% of its sanctioned intake, then at the<br />
discretion of the Centre for Distance Education, <strong>Shivaji</strong> <strong>University</strong> that particular study centre<br />
may be merged with another study centre nearby.<br />
Similarly two study centres with low study enrolment may be merged together at the<br />
discretion of the Centre for Distance Education, <strong>Shivaji</strong> <strong>University</strong>.<br />
In case of a merger, the students enrolled at the merged study centre would have to submit<br />
their internal assignments and also attend contact sessions at the study centre where they have<br />
been transferred.<br />
However, the Examination centres for the students transferred to another study centre will<br />
not be affected, i.e. the Examination centre chosen by the student and accepted by the Centre for<br />
Distance Education, <strong>Shivaji</strong> <strong>University</strong>, at the time of filling the online form will remain valid.<br />
For example, let us assume that the number of students enrolling at the Satara study centre<br />
is low, and hence the Satara study centre is merged with the Sangli study centre. In this case,<br />
the students who had enrolled with the Satara study centre would to attend the contact sessions<br />
held at the Sangli study centre and would have to submit his/her assignments to the Sangli study<br />
centre. However, such transferred students’ choice of examination centre would remain<br />

unchanged i.e. say he/she had chosen Satara as the examination centre, then he/she attend the<br />
examination centre at Satara and need not attend the examination at Sangli.<br />
Contact Sessions and other related information:<br />
Attendance for the contact sessions is not compulsory but students are advised to attend<br />
these contact sessions as difficulties/doubts are solved by the expert teachers conducting the<br />
contact sessions.<br />
The contact sessions shall generally be arranged at the end of week i.e. on Sunday or as per<br />
the convenience of the Study Centre and the registered candidates.<br />
The contact sessions timetable for each M.B.A. Distance mode Study Centre will be<br />
displayed on the <strong>University</strong> website and students should follow the timetable.<br />
Students will not be informed individually of the start of the contact sessions, timetable etc.<br />
An effort will be made to send an e-mail through group messaging.<br />
The contact sessions are meant for guiding students in case of any difficulties. Some<br />
contact sessions will deal with the certain areas of the Syllabus which a majority of the students<br />
find difficult, but lectures as in the regular college mode will not be conducted. The students of<br />
the Distance Mode are expected to go through the Self Instructional Material (SIM) provided<br />
and get their difficulties solved / doubts cleared during the contact sessions.<br />
Choice of Examination Centre:<br />
A student can choose his/her examination centre when registering online. Once the<br />
registration process is complete, the examination centre cannot be changed.<br />
At present the following M.B.A. examination centres are offered :<br />
1. Kolhapur.<br />
2. Sangli.<br />
3. Satara.<br />
The examination venue is noted on the hall ticket issued as would be the subject-wise<br />
examination dates.<br />
For example, a student may have chosen Kolhapur as his/her Study Centre, but the student<br />
can choose Satara as his/her examination centre to appear for his/her examinations.<br />
During the registration process, a student can choose an examination centre different from<br />
the examination centre chosen during previous registration(s) .<br />
For example, a student may have chosen Kolhapur as his/her examination centre for the<br />
November 2011 semester examinations, but the student can choose Satara as his/her<br />
examination centre for the May 2012 examinations.<br />

Passing Rules -<br />
1. For each subject, there is a separate passing criterion for Internal Assignment (Term<br />
Work) and the <strong>University</strong> Examination, i.e. in each subject, a student has to get at least<br />
8 out of 20 in internal assessment and 32 out of 80 in <strong>University</strong> Examination.<br />
The Internal Assignment questions for all semesters and all subjects would be<br />
displayed on the <strong>University</strong> website with the last date of submission at the appropriate<br />
Study Centre clearly indicated.<br />
In case a student fails to submit/does not submit the complete required set /submits<br />
after the specified date the Internal Assessment part, he/she would be declared failed<br />
for those particular subject(s) and would have to submit the Internal Assessment for<br />
those particular subject(s) after registering for the next examination for those subjects<br />
again.<br />
The Internal Assessment so submitted should be as per the latest internal assignment<br />
questions displayed and not as per the internal assignment questions displayed in the<br />
previous semester.<br />
2. Also in each semester, an aggregate minimum [in all subjects taken together for that<br />
semester] of 50% marks is required for passing in that semester.<br />
Hence it is possible that a student may get 40% marks [32 in the <strong>University</strong><br />
Examination and 8 in the Internal Assessment and may still fail if he does not get 50%<br />
aggregate marks.<br />
In such a case, the student may register for improvement of marks for a minimum of<br />
one and a maximum of four subject(s) of his/her choice on payment of the appropriate<br />
fees.<br />
The most recent marks would be considered for awarding of class.<br />
3. A student who had registered for the semester I will be allowed to continue for the<br />
semester II even if he fails in / remains absent for all subjects in semester I.<br />
Similarly, a student who had registered for the semester III will be allowed to continue<br />
for the semester IV even if he fails in / remains absent for all subjects in semester III.<br />
4. For admission to MBA – Part-II [semester III], a candidate must have cleared all<br />
papers of semester I and II or at least 12 papers of semester I and II combined.<br />

5. Award of Class is based on the aggregate marks obtained by the student in all four<br />
semesters as follows:<br />
Distinction - 70% and above<br />
First Class - 60% to 70%<br />
Second Class - 50% to 60%<br />
Fail - below 50%<br />
Information about the SIM [Self Instructional Material]:<br />
After admission has been granted to a student, SIM [Self Instructional Material] has to be<br />
collected in person by the student or by his/her representative on production of tuition fee<br />
receipt from the Consumer Stores, located behind the <strong>University</strong> Main Building. This receipt<br />
has to be handed over the Consumer Store section. Students should take a photocopy of the<br />
receipt before collection of the SIM for his/her reference.<br />
SIM [Self Instructional Material] for both the semesters of each part i.e. [(Part I consisting<br />
of semester I and semester II) and (Part II consisting of semester III and semester IV)] would be<br />
issued at the beginning of each Part.<br />
There is no provision for sending the SIM [Self Instructional Material] by Post / by courier.<br />
Lateral shift from M.B.A. (Executive) Distance mode course to M.B.A. Distance mode<br />
course and vice-versa:<br />
At a later stage, change of course from M.B.A. Distance mode to M.B.A. (Executive)<br />
Distance mode will not be permitted in any case.<br />
Before the start of the II year, change of course from M.B.A. (Executive) Distance mode to<br />
M.B.A. Distance mode, may be permitted in exceptional cases by the Centre for Distance<br />
Education. The candidate has to submit a written application to the Director, Centre for<br />
Distance Education and the change may be permitted at the discretion of the Director, Centre for<br />
Distance Education.<br />
Fee Structure for first time/initial registration to various semesters:<br />
Fee structure is the same for both the M.B.A. (Executive) Distance Mode and M.B.A.<br />
(Distance Mode) courses.<br />
Fee structure is the same for both the reserved category and open category students.<br />
Concession in the fees payable is not available to any category of students.<br />

The abovementioned fee structure is only for new registrations / admissions (appearing for<br />
the first time) for various semesters as indicated.<br />
Registration for the next semester:<br />
Students desirous of registering for the next semester and/or desirous of registering for<br />
clearing/reappearing for failed subjects/improvement have to approach the Centre for Distance<br />
Education, <strong>Shivaji</strong> <strong>University</strong>, Kolhapur within 15 days from the date of declaration of results<br />
for admission to the next semester.<br />
Registrations will be accepted for an additional 15 days on payment of the appropriate Late<br />
Fee and Super Late Fee as per prevalent rules. Depending upon the result, and the prevalent<br />
rules, the student has to pay the appropriate fees, complete the online form and complete the<br />
necessary formalities.<br />
Completion of Registration:<br />
Students should note that registration process is complete only after<br />
(a) filling of the online registration form and<br />
(b) payment of the appropriate fees in cash/by an account payee demand draft.<br />
(c) submitting of the completed online registration form in person/by post/by courier to the<br />
Centre for Distance Education at Kolhapur along with the fee receipt or the account payee<br />
draft as the case may be.<br />
Failure to complete all the above steps (a), (b) and (c) would result in non-registration of the<br />
student for the chosen examination.<br />
Restrictions regarding initial registration for various semesters:<br />
A student can register for the first time/ initially for the various semesters as per following<br />

It should be noted that students can do an initial/first time registration for a particular<br />
semester only during the months as mentioned above. For semesters other than that semester<br />
initial/first time registrations are not permitted.<br />
If a student has registered for the first time/initially for a particular semester as permitted<br />
above and fails in one or more subjects in that semester, then he/she can register for the first<br />
time (provided the <strong>Shivaji</strong> <strong>University</strong> rules for registering for the next semester and in particular<br />
for semester III are met) for the next semester and also register for failed subjects<br />
clearing/reappearing for the previous semester(s).<br />
Example I:<br />
A student is granted admission to the M.B.A. course and registers initially/for the first time<br />
for semester I in June/July 2009 [for examination to be conducted in November/December<br />
2009]. On declaration of results in November/December 2009, assume that he/she fails to clear<br />
one or more subjects of semester I.<br />
After declaration of the results in November/December 2009, the student can register for<br />
the first time/initially for semester II and must also register for clearing of the failed subjects in<br />
semester I [both examinations to be conducted in June/July 2010].<br />
Example II:<br />
[Continuing with the above example I above] Assume that in November/December 2009,<br />
the student registers for the first time for semester II and clearing of the failed subjects in<br />
semester I [both examinations to be conducted in June/July 2010].<br />
On declaration of results in June/July 2010, assume that he/she fails to clear one or more<br />
subjects of semester I and semester II.<br />
After declaration of the results in June/July 2010, the student can register for clearing of<br />
failed subjects of semester I and semester II, but can register initially/for the first time for<br />
semester III provided he/she has cleared a total of 12 subjects or more (out of the total of 16<br />
subjects of semester I and II combined).<br />
Example III:<br />
[Continuing with the above example II above] Assume on declaration of results in<br />
June/July 2010, he/she fails to clear four or more subjects of semester I and semester II,<br />
combined.<br />
Then, in June/July 2010, the student can register only for clearing of failed subjects of<br />
Semester I and Semester II [both examinations to be conducted in November/December 2010].,<br />
but cannot register for Semester III.<br />
Further assume that on declaration of the results in November/December 2010, the student<br />
clears all the failed subjects of Semester I and Semester II even then in November/December<br />

2010, the student cannot register for the first time/initially for semester III, as per the table given<br />
above but can register only in June/July 2011 or in later registration rounds.<br />
Example IV:<br />
A student is granted admission to the M.B.A. course and registers initially/for the first time<br />
for Semester I in June/July 2009 [for examination to be conducted in November/December<br />
2009].<br />
After declaration of the results in November/December 2009, the student can register for<br />
the first time/initially for Semester II and must also register for clearing of the failed subjects (if<br />
any) in semester I.<br />
Assume that on declaration of the results in November/December 2009, the student decides<br />
not to register initially/for the first time for Semester II but decides to register only to clear all<br />
the failed subjects of Semester I.<br />
On declaration of the results in June/July 2010, assume that the student clears all his/her<br />
semester I failed subjects but then cannot register for the first time/initially for Semester II in<br />
June/July 2010 as per the table given above and will be allowed to register only in<br />
November/December 2010 or later.<br />

A student can register initially/for the first time for a particular semester as permitted and<br />
can remain absent for all / fail in all subjects for that semester. He/She will then be permitted to<br />
register for the next Semester [ not applicable for registering for the first time/initially for<br />
Semester III as the student will not have cleared 12 or more subjects out of the total 16 subjects<br />
in Semester I and II combined]. The student will also be allowed to reregister/reappear for the<br />
failed subjects of the previous Semester, as this is a re-registration and not an initial/first time<br />
registration.<br />
Fee Structure for registration for clearing of failed subjects (reappearing) in one or more<br />
semesters:<br />
1. Completion of Registration:<br />
Students should note that registration process is complete only after<br />
(a) filling of the online registration form and<br />
(b) payment of the appropriate fees in cash/by an account payee demand draft.<br />
(c) submitting of the completed online registration form in person/by post/by courier to the<br />
Centre for Distance Education at Kolhapur along with the fee receipt or the account payee<br />
draft as the case may be.<br />

2. Fee Structure for reappearing:<br />
For students registering for clearing of failed subjects (reappearing) for one or more<br />
semesters, the fee structure is as follows. In case of any doubts further information may be<br />
obtained from the M.B.A. Co-ordinator.<br />
Total fees * Payable = Registration Fee + Form Fee + Regular Examination Fee + Additional<br />
Examination Fee + Late Fee<br />
Presently, Course fee of Rs. 15,000/- is payable only when registering initially/for the first<br />
time for semester I and semester III, while Eligibility Fees of Rs. 100/Rs. 300/ Rs. 500 (as per<br />
details given earlier) is payable only when registering initially for semester I only. Registration<br />
fee of Rs. 300/- and Form Fee of Rs. 20/- are payable by each student irrespective of whether<br />
he/she is registering initially/for the first time or whether the student is registering for clearing<br />
of failed subjects of previous semester(s).<br />
In case, the student is registering initially/for the first time for the next semester and is also<br />
registering for clearing of failed subjects in previous semester(s), then the registration fee and<br />
the form fee is charged only once i.e. the registration fee + the form fee is not chargeable<br />
separately for registering initially/for the first time and registering for clearing of failed subjects<br />
in previous semester(s).<br />
But, in case, the student is registering only for clearing of failed subjects in previous<br />
semester(s) or is reappearing for marks improvement, then also the registration fee and form fee<br />
has to be paid by the student.<br />
In short, once the student pays the Registration fee of Rs. 300/- and Form Fee of Rs. 20/-,<br />
he/she can register for the next semester and/or register for clearing of subjects in previous<br />
semesters or marks improvement in previous semester(s).<br />
Regular Examination Fee is payable if the student is registering initially/for the first time<br />
for the appropriate semester. The current regular examination fee schedule has been given<br />
earlier.<br />
Late Fee would be payable as applicable depending the fee payment schedule.<br />
Additional Examination Fee is payable by a student if he/she has to register for clearing<br />
(reappearing) for subjects in which the student has earlier appeared and failed i.e. in case the<br />
student has not cleared all his/her subjects or has not obtained the minimum of 50% marks in<br />
aggregate in any one or more of the previous semesters then additional examination fees have to<br />
be paid, as per schedule given below.<br />
Additional Examination Fee Schedule:<br />
This fee is applicable semester-wise i.e. each semester is considered separately.<br />
* The course fee, eligibility fee, registration fee, form fee, regular examination fee, additional<br />

These additional examination fees are applicable on a per semester basis i.e. in case the<br />

Admission cancellation and refund of fees:<br />
Candidates should note that provisional admission is granted on payment of fees as<br />
appropriate. If a student cancels the provisional admission at a later stage, fees will be refunded<br />
after due process as per Admission Cancellation and Fee Refund rules framed by <strong>Shivaji</strong><br />
<strong>University</strong>.<br />
Dual Degree:<br />
Ordinance 78 :<br />
Students can register for either the M.B.A. Distance mode or the M.B.A. (Executive)<br />
Distance mode course and an educational course in the regular mode (either with a college<br />
affiliated to <strong>Shivaji</strong> <strong>University</strong> or a Department of <strong>Shivaji</strong> <strong>University</strong>). The student has to make<br />
an application in the prescribed format to the PG Admissions section and make the appropriate<br />
payment.<br />
A student can keep terms simultaneously for two examinations of this <strong>University</strong> provided<br />
that the student should take regular admission for one of the examination and for another<br />
examination he/she should keep terms under external/distance education mode and further<br />

provided that there is a no overlap/clash between the examination schedules of the two<br />
examinations.<br />
The candidate wishing to keep terms for two examinations should apply to the PG<br />
Admissions section, <strong>Shivaji</strong> <strong>University</strong> along with proof of regular admission and details<br />
furnishing information about second course that he/she wants to complete.<br />
All such applications shall be scrutinized by the Deans’ committee and the applications<br />
with those combinations, which do not affect the examinations schedule of <strong>University</strong> will be<br />
approved. These candidates should submit their prescribed application form with requisite fees<br />
within seven days from the receipt of approval letter. In case of any overlap/clash between the<br />
examination schedule of the two examinations on account of any change in any of the schedule<br />
made by the <strong>University</strong>, it will be the concerned student’s option/discretion to appear for the<br />
exam of his/her choice. Also complaint/request for change in the exam schedule will not be<br />
entertained by the <strong>University</strong>.<br />
This is an additional facility provided to the students and shall not be treated as right of<br />
student to avail the same.<br />
It is hereby informed to all concerned that the earlier circular issued in this regard Ref. No.<br />
SU/BOS/ORD/13004 dated 22/2/07 stands cancelled.<br />
Declaration of results of the semester examinations:<br />
Results of a particular course are normally declared (barring unforeseen circumstances)<br />
within 40 days from the day of the last examination for that particular semester.<br />

PROJECT REPORT AND VIVA<br />
Student has to undergo a practical training of minimum 6 months. MBA being professional<br />
course it is essential for each student to practically apply or understand theoretical concepts<br />
what he/she learn during the course. During the training programme student is expected to<br />
collect vital information through internal and external source so as to reach concrete<br />
conclusions on the given subject. Student has to prepare the project report under the guidance<br />
of teacher. Director/Principal of the institution/college will decide the last date of submission of<br />
final copy. Student should submit two typed copies to the Institute. One copy for the institute<br />
and another copy for his/her personal record. Students may prepare additional copies for the<br />
organization, guide etc.<br />
A viva-voce examination will be conducted before the Semester IV examination. A vivavoce<br />
committee will be appointed by the university. A committee will consist of 3 members.<br />
Every district will have a separate committee for viva-voce.<br />
