registration 

By signing your application form, you declare, inter alia, that you 

undertake to comply strictly with the rules of the University. 

It is in your own interest to read the following pages very carefully BEFORE 

you ENROL, and to keep this brochure and the relevant parts of the Calendar 

for future reference during this academic year. They are intended not only to 

facilitate the completion and the acceptance of your application, but also 

to inform you of your rights and obligations as a student, and to provide 

you with the general information you will need to solve problems that 

may arise in connection with your studies during the year. 

IMPORTANT 

To ensure that your application for registration will be accepted, YOUR 

COMPLETED APPLICATION FORM MUST BE RECEIVED by the 

University ON OR BEFORE THE APPROPRIATE CLOSING DATE 

FOR REGISTRATION TOGETHER WITH THE FOLLOWING: 

(a)

the prescribed initial payment in respect of each module for 

which you register as well as any additional levies, where 

applicable. Note that no application for registration will be 

accepted unless it is accompanied by the prescribed minimum 

initial payment); 

AND 

all the documents required for admission to your proposed 

course of studies (unless these documents have been submied 

previously – see A2 below). 

Please ensure that you comply with the admission to studies and submit 

the correct relevant documents on registration. 

If you are registering for the FIRST TIME at this University, you are 

referred to Section C3 for possible restrictions on the number of study 

units for which you may register. 

On RE-ENROLMENT, the number of study units for which you may 

register may be restricted, inter alia, by the results obtained in your last 

year of registration at this University. Information in connection with 

the number of study units per year and readmission to studies is found 

in Section C3. 

CANCELLATIONS and ADDITIONS TO the study units for which you 

have registered CANNOT be considered aer the appropriate closing 

date for registration.

• Students are advised to register as early as possible. PLEASE DO NOT 

WAIT UNTIL THE APPROPRIATE CLOSING DATE. 

• All study units for each year must be selected in such a manner that 

the examination dates do not clash – SEE THE EXAMINATION

1. ALL QUALIFICATIONS (FOR UNDERGRADUATE 

STUDIES) 

(1) On FIRST registration for UNDERGRADUATE studies (or on 

first registration for a new undergraduate qualification), the 

following documents must be submied TOGETHER WITH 

your application for registration: 

(a) a certified copy of your qualification at matriculation level 

or highest school qualification (or an official statement of 

results) even if you have completed a degree at another 

university or Technikon 

and 

(b) a certified copy of your ID document (issued by the 

Department of Home Affairs) or passport 

and 

(c) a married woman will be registered in the name as 

indicated on a certified copy of her ID document or 

passport or birth certificate; marriage certificate, divorce 

decree; official name change leer from Home Affairs. 

Certified copies must be submied. 

and 

(d) any other difference in names on the ID compared to the 

academic qualification, should be accompanied by original 

official documents, e.g. a leer from the Department of 

Home Affairs 

and 

(e) Should you be under the age of 21 years, a consent form (see 

the Information Brochure) duly completed and signed by 

your parent or legal guardian. The registration of students 

who are under 21 years of age and who do not submit this 

consent form may be refused. 

and 

(f) evidence that you have satisfied any additional 

requirements listed under ‘Admission’ in the rules for the 

relevant degree or diploma. (In some cases such evidence 

must be submied annually.) 

(2) If your most recent registration was at ANOTHER South African 

university, university of technology or technikon, and you le 

before completing the degree or diploma for which you were 

enrolled, the following ORIGINAL documents (COPIES are 

NOT acceptable) must be submied TOGETHER WITH your 

application for registration for UNDERGRADUATE studies: 

(a) a certificate of good conduct 

and (if you are applying for exemptions) 

(b) a transcript of your complete academic record 

These original document(s), with a stamp of the issuing 

institution and signature must be issued by the REGISTRAR of 

the university, university of technology or technikon concerned. 

(If you were previously registered at more than one other 

university, you must, where applicable, obtain the documents 

specified above from each of the universities or technikons 

concerned.) Note that these original documents will be retained 

by the University and will NOT be returned to you. 

When you apply to the Registrar of your previous university 

for the documents under A2(1)(2)(a) and, where applicable, 

A2(1)(2)(b), you should mention that they are required for

purposes of registration at the University of South Africa. You 

should also quote your Unisa student number (if known). 

If you COMPLETED a degree or diploma at the end of your 

last year of registration at another university or technikon, you 

must submit evidence thereof together with your application 

for registration. Note that your original academic record will be 

required if you wish to apply for exemptions by virtue of courses 

you have already passed. 

2. ALL QUALIFICATIONS (FOR POSTGRADUATE STUDIES) 

The documents indicated below must be submied together with 

a student’s application for admission to POSTGRADUATE studies 

and before the closing date for registration. A student for an honours 

bachelor’s degree must, in addition to the registration form, complete 

a separate form for admission. This form is sent to all prospective 

students and if you have not received such a form, you must request 

one from the Registrar. 

You may either first obtain admission to the course of studies and 

thereaer forward your registration form and fees, or send the form and 

fees when applying for admission. The laer procedure will expedite 

maers and if you are not admied, the fees will be refunded.

Original degree certificates and/or teacher’s diplomas/certificates must 

not be submied, and if you send in an original you do so at your own 

risk. 

Concurrent registration at two different universities in the Republic of 

South Africa is subject to strict controls. If you have already registered 

or intend to register at another SOUTH AFRICAN university for 

2007, this must be indicated on your registration form (see also General 

Rule G3(4)). Wrien permission for such concurrent registration must 

be obtained from the Registrar of the other university and it must 

be submied together with your application for registration at this 

University. Note that your registration at this University can be for 

non-degree purposes (NDP) only. 

The documents submied will be retained by the University and will 

NOT be returned to you. 

1. Postgraduate certificates and 

diplomas 

(1) On first registration for a postgraduate certificate or diploma, 

the following documents must be submied TOGETHER WITH 

your application for registration: 

(a) a certified copy of your qualification at matriculation level 

or highest school qualification even if you have completed 

a degree at another university 

and 

(b) a certified copy of your ID document (issued by the 

Department of Home Affairs) or passport 

and 

(c) A married woman will be registered in the name as 

indicated on her certificate for the qualification prescribed 

for admission unless a certified copy of her marriage 

certificate or, where applicable, divorce papers are 

submied.

(d) evidence in the form of original documents that you 

have satisfied any additional requirements listed under 

“Admission” in the rules for the relevant certificate or 

diploma. 

(2) If your most recent registration was at ANOTHER South African 

university, and you le before completing the qualification for 

which you were enrolled, the following documents must be 

submied TOGETHER WITH your application for registration: 

(a) an original certificate of good conduct 

and (if you are applying for exemptions) 

(b) an original transcript of your complete academic record 

(together with a copy of the syllabi of the study units 

completed).

of the educational institution concerned. (If you were previously 

registered at more than one institution, you must, where

When you apply to the Registrar of your previous university/ 

college for the documents under (1)(2a) and, where applicable, 

(1)(2b), you should mention that they are required for purposes 

of registration at the University of South Africa. You should also 

quote your Unisa student number (if known). 

2. Honours bachelor’s degrees 

If you did not obtain your bachelor’s degree at this University, 

you must submit an original transcript of your complete 

academic record, issued by the REGISTRAR of the university 

concerned. The transcript must include all years of registration

• On REREGISTRATION a computer-printed form must be used by all

A physically handicapped student who is unable to write his/her 

examinations at an approved examination centre, must annually apply 

to the Registrar in writing BEFORE 1 March for the May semester 

examination and 30 August for the October examination for permission 

to write at a special centre, and submit a medical certificate specifying 

the nature of his/her handicap. Such students are normally required to 

pay the commissioner’s fees.

a questionnaire which will be supplied to them on registration. 

The ARCUSA (Advocacy and Resources Centre for Unisa Students with 

Disabilities) was established through the Office of the Dean of Students. It 

is intended to enhance self representation, advice, support and to ensure 

coordination and coherence of all services for students with disabilities 

at Unisa. ARCUSA assists in organising and supervising their study 

groups, but also helps to coordinate their university or office visits, group 

discussions and tutorials. To help make access and equity a reality, Braille

To allow full participation of people with disabilities in maers that 

affect them, Sign Language Interpretation is also provided. Advocacy by

APPLICATION FOR EXEMPTION CERTIFICATES FOR 

ADMISSION TO BACHELOR’S DEGREE STUDIES 

A student who is not in possession of an exemption certificate, may 

enquire at the University (Access and Matriculation Exemption Office) 

about the possibility that he/she may qualify for any of the other 

types of exemption certificates, i.e on the grounds of foreign or post 

school qualifications obtained and/or mature age (see Do I qualify for 

Admission to study for a Bachelor’s Degree – centrefold). 

An application for such an exemption certificate must be submied to 

the University who will, upon finalisation of the application, forward 

it to the Matriculation Board. The certificate will then be issued, if 

approved by the Board. In the case where a certificate of conditional 

exemption is issued, a student will be required to renew such a 

certificate when it lapses. 

The following documents and fees must be submied in support of any 

application for exemption, which should be made prior to or on the day 

of registration: 

1. Application form M30(E) duly completed – see centrefold. 

2. Original Educational qualifications (High School and postschool 

qualification) or only copies certified correct by the 

Registrar of a South African university or by a South African 

Embassy, Consulate, High Commission, Trade Mission or by a 

Public Notary in a foreign country. Original sworn translations 

into either English or Afrikaans must accompany documents 

issued in another language. 

3. An original official academic record reflecting the courses passed 

in different years, if the application is based on the grounds of 

post-school qualifications, with a prescribed minimum duration

FIRST MAKE A CAREFUL STUDY OF SECTION E BEFORE GIVING THE 

PARTICULARS ASKED FOR. 

To avoid delay, and even refusal, of your application for registration, 

you must make sure that you have correctly calculated the relevant fees 

and that they are submied together with your completed application 

form, where possible. 

If you are paying by credit card (only ‘Visa’ or ‘Mastercard’ is accepted), 

make sure that all the particulars given by you are correct. Note that 

the CV number must also be filled in. The CV number is the last three 

digits which appear aer your credit card number on the reverse side 

of your credit card. The cardholder’s signature is also required on the 

registration form. A photostat copy of BOTH sides of the credit card 

must be submied together with your application for registration. 

Foreign students who are paying by credit cards other than their own must 

supply the following additional information in an accompanying leer: 

(1) The name and surname of the cardholder in full (if the holder is 

a married woman, her maiden name must also be supplied) 

(2) The ID/passport number of the cardholder 

(3) The address of the cardholder (as submied to the bank as 

reference)

listed alphabetically according to the subject code. 

• The University will endeavour to keep to the examination dates 

in the timetable but, if changes are necessitated by unavoidable 

circumstances, they will be indicated in the final timetable. 

• Dates CANNOT be changed at the request of students.

alphabetical list in the Examination Timetable booklet.

(2) How to use the timetable 

First find the name and code of each study unit for which you 

wish to register for 2007 in Part 2 of the Calendar. 

Write down the codes and the corresponding examination dates 

on a sheet of paper, and make sure that the dates do not clash. If 

there is a clash, you may NOT register for more than one of the 

study units concerned in 2007. 

Although examination dates have been arranged in both 

semesters 1 and 2 in a particular semester module, it should be 

noted that the relevant module may not necessarily be offered in 

both semesters. Students may not register for a semester module 

in a semester in which the module is not offered – see the relevant 

subject chapter in Part 2 of the Calendar.

Each study unit is designated by a code consisting of SEVEN characters, 

and the relevant code must be indicated on the registration form.

The university has a tuition model which includes subjects being offered 

in a modular format and on a semester/year basis.

Semester student. For purposes of handing in of documents a student 

is considered to be a semester student if he/she registers for at least one 

module offered on a semester basis irrespective of whether or not other 

study units of one year duration have been included in the registration.

Although it is the policy of the University to offer opportunities for study 

to all who qualify for admission, Council and Senate have, for various 

reasons, found it necessary to limit the privilege of reregistration only to 

students who, in the opinion of the University, have made satisfactory 

academic progress at this University, and can therefore be expected to 

complete their proposed course of studies in a reasonable time.

1. Undergraduate students 

NUMBER OF STUDY UNITS PER TUITION PERIOD 

– ON FIRST REGISTRATION 

On first registration at this University the number of study units for 

which a student may register is determined as indicated below. These 

restrictions do not apply to the Certificates and Diplomas in Education 

offered by the School of Education in Part 5 of the Calendar:

Students who wish to register for the BSc degree or the National Certificate 

in Datametrics and who are restricted to registration for FOUR modules are 

referred to the NB under Rule Sc3(2) or Sc11(2) respectively in Part 7 of the 

Calendar. An abstract of Rule G13 appears in Section 1 in each of the College 

Calendars.

A student who was registered at another university and who 

(i) passed at least one course (or the equivalent thereof), is 

NOT restricted, except by the rules for the relevant degree 

or diploma; 

(ii) did not pass a single study unit, is restricted according to 

his/her results at matriculation level. A student who is in 

possession of 

• a conditional exemption on grounds of age (+23) 

may register for a maximum of TWO modules; 

• one of the certificates under Rule G13(1)(a)–(e) 

(with the exception of a certificate of conditional 

exemption on grounds of age (+23)) with at least 

50% (D symbol*) in THREE of more subjects may 

register for a maximum of FOUR modules; 

• one of the certificates under Rule G13(1)(a)–(e) 

(with the exception of a certificate of conditional 

exemption on grounds of age (+23)) but with LESS 

than THREE subjects with at least 50% (D symbol*) 

may register for only TWO modules. 

A student who has completed a three- or four-year diploma at a 

technikon, a Teachers’ College, a University or a Nursing College that 

is affiliated to a South African university is not restricted, except by the 

rules for the relevant degree or diploma. 

A student who was registered at a Technikon, a Teachers’ College or 

a Nursing College WITHOUT completing a three- or four-year 

diploma and who 

(i) passed at least one course (or the equivalent thereof) is 

referred to (d) below; 

(ii) did not pass a single study unit, may register for only 

TWO modules or, in the case of the College of Science, 

Engineering and Technology four modules). Note that if

NUMBER OF STUDY UNITS PER YEAR – ON 

REREGISTRATION 

1. AFTER ONE YEAR OF STUDY 

Students who were registered at this University in 1980 or later for the 

FIRST and ONLY time for a degree, diploma or for non-degree purposes 

(NDP) and did not pass any study units aer one year of study are 

permied to reregister. The number of study units they may take is 

the same as in their first year of study, ie if they were restricted to two 

modules on the grounds of their admission documents, this restriction 

will also apply to the second year. If they were unrestricted in their 

first-year, they will also be unrestricted in their second year, except by 

the relevant college rule. 

4. AFTER FIVE YEARS OF STUDY 

Students who, aer five years of study have not passed study units 

with a total weight of at least 0,400 (the equivalent of four modules or 

two first-year courses or four half-courses) will not be admied to any 

further studies on undergraduate level, at this University 

5. AFTER NINE OR MORE YEARS OF STUDY 

Students who, aer nine or more years of study have not passed study 

units with a total weight of at least 1,000 (the equivalent of ten modules 

or the first year of a three year degree) will not be admied to any 

further studies at undergraduate level at this University.

• Each year in which a student was registered at Unisa is included in the 

abovementioned periods of registration – not just the years in which 

he/she was registered for a particular qualification. 

In the case of a student who has COMPLETED a degree or a university 

diploma, only those years of registration AFTER completion of the 

degree or diploma will be taken into account. 

• Study units from which a student has been exempted will NOT be 

taken into consideration for purposes of determining whether he/she 

may be permied to re-enrol. His/Her previous academic performance 

at another university will, likewise, not be taken into consideration. 

• Students are strongly advised to register early, to limit the number 

of study units for which they enrol in accordance with the time they 

have available for study, and to work at a steady pace throughout the 

year, since these are all important factors which can influence their 

progress.

Once a student has passed a study unit, the number of study units on 

reregistration in future years of study will be unrestricted except by college 

rules, provided the student qualifies for readmission to studies.

Addition of study units after

2. AFTER TWO YEARS OF STUDY 

Students who aer two years of study have not passed any study units 

may reregister in their third year, but the same restrictions as in 1 

above will apply. Such students will be advised to register for ASC001R 

(Academic Support module) with or without other study units. 

3. AFTER THREE YEARS OF STUDY 

The application for re-enrolment from students who, aer three years 

of study have not passed study units with a weight of at least 0,200 

(equivalent to two modules) at this University, will be refused. 

If permission to re-enrol at the University has been refused to students 

aer three years of study they may apply for readmission once they 

have satisfied one of the following requirements AFTER they were 

refused readmission: 

(a) passed study units with a weight equivalent to at least 0,600 at 

another university 

or 

(b) completed a one year qualification, which has an admission 

requirement of at least a senior or school leaving certificate, at a 

recognised tertiary institution (eg a Technikon, Teachers’ College 

or University). 

On readmission the requirements of C3 will apply with effect from the 

year in which the student was readmied to studies. Students who are 

refused readmission for a second time will NOT again be admied to 

studies on undergraduate level.

Students who have registered before the appropriate closing date, may 

register for additional study units provided that their wrien application 

for such addition(s) is received by the University on or before that date. 

(It is NOT necessary to complete another registration form.)

NB 

• There are different closing dates for students registering for the 2007 

academic year. 

• Students are strongly advised to register EARLY, and NOT to wait 

until the closing date. 

Completed applications for registration (including fees, completed 

registration form and supporting documents) must be RECEIVED 

by the University ON OR BEFORE THE APPROPRIATE CLOSING 

DATES. Those received aer that date will NOT be accepted. 

Students registering at the University for the first time must submit all 

the relevant documents and fees together with their registration form. 

If you register in December, you will normally receive sufficient tutorial 

maer to be able to begin your studies at once. The lecturers will not 

be available to mark assignments, nor to answer queries in connection 

with studies until February 2007 but, by registering early, you will have 

more time to acquaint yourself with the year’s work, and to plan your 

studies accordingly. 

A. Registration for the 2007 academic year for all qualifications 

begins on 4 DECEMBER 2006. This registration period closes 

on 21 December 2006. 

Students who wrote examinations at Senior Certificate level or

The restrictions under ‘Duration of study and number of study units per year’

Applications for additions must be made in writing and, accompanied 

by the prescribed fees and levies, where applicable (see Section B3). It is 

NOT necessary to complete another registration form. 

Students awaiting the results from the re-mark of a January examination 

script may register until 8 March 2007, but not for any relevant successive 

study unit until such time as the result of the re-marked script of the 

preceding study unit is available. Not applicable to modules offered in

If you intend to write (or have wrien) the examination in one or more 

papers of a course (or half-course) or modules in January 2007, you 

may NOT register for any study unit(s) in that subject for which the 

paper(s)/modules you wrote are prerequisites/co-requisites before the

NB 

The registration period closes on 22 December 2006. 

The Regional service centre in Wellington, Western Cape will close for 

registration at 12:00 on 15 December 2006 and will re-open at 08:00 on 

2 January 2007. 

Self-help Centre 

This centre is available only to undergraduate students who are 

reregistering at Unisa. 

Students may now also make use of the self-help registration centre 

situated at the registration hall on the campuses in Pretoria and Florida 

as well as the regional service centre in Durban. The purpose of the 

self- help centre is to create the opportunity for students to register 

themselves under the supervision of an advisor and in so doing shorten 

the actual time of registration. The student will however be selected 

outside the registration hall before proceeding to the self-help centre 

and the following criteria will apply: 

• First registration for the qualification must not be prior to 1998 

• No outstanding fees or documents 

• No advice is needed by the student 

• Modules for which the student is registering are in accordance 

with the rules stipulated in the relevant Calendar 

• No alteration of any personal data needed (for example: a change 

of address) 

If a student qualifies according to the above mentioned criteria he or she 

may ask for assistance at the entrance to the registration hall C on the 

Pretoria campus or at the entrance to the registration halls in Durban 

or Florida. 

NB 

If the correct study fees are deposited, according to the prescribed procedure, 

into the ABSA bank account (see E2(7) in this brochure), at least forty eight 

(48) hours (two working days), prior to registering in the self-help centre, 

the registration will be activated immediately and the student will be able to 

proceed to despatch directly from the self-help centre without first queuing at 

the cashiers.

Prescribed fees for 2007 

The government is currently investigating the policy regarding the 

subsidy for foreign students. The aention of such students is drawn 

to the fact that prescribed student fees could increase substantially in 

the future. 

(A) 

GENERAL INFORMATION 

(1) Prescribed student fees 

Fees are valid for only one academic year. 

Prescribed student fees include registration, examinations and 

admission to discussion classes. 

Miscellaneous fees are also payable in the following instances: 

(i) supplementary, special and aegrotat examinations 

(ii) remark of examination scripts 

(iii) graduation ceremonies 

(iv) issuing of complete or conditional exemption certificates 

by the Matriculation Board (payble before or on 

registration) 

(v) dishonoured cheques 

(vi) checking of examination marks 

(vii) levy on students in foreign countries 

(viii) levy payable by overseas master’s and doctoral students 

(2) Miscellaneous fees (other) 

All miscellaneous fees are payable to Unisa and may be included 

with your student fees. 

(3) Bursary holders and students whose studies are 

underwritten by their employers or other institutions 

Students in this category must pay at least the relevant prescribed 

initial payment on registration, together with any compulsory 

miscellaneous fees (eg the levy for foreign students). 

Fees must be paid before the relevant closing date(s).

Accounts are issued only to students and not to any third party 

or other institutions. 

A quotation of fees payable may be issued on request, which you 

may hand to the relevant institution before registration. 

(4) Financial Aid 

(a) 

National Students Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) 

Students may apply for a NSFAS loan for assistance with 

study fees if they meet inter alia the following criteria: 

• must be a South African citizen; 

• studying towards a first tertiary qualification or 

studying for a second tertiary qualification if such 

qualification is necessary in order to practice in 

your chosen career (eg. PGCE); 

• able to demonstrate a potential for academic success; 

• financially needy. 

(b) 

Government employees 

Students employed in Government Departments may 

apply for assistance with study fees if they meet inter alia 

the following criteria: 

• they must be in the direct employ of the SA 

Government or a permanent member of the 

SANDF; 

• loan may not exceed 25% of gross income; 

• maximum loan amount is R10 000 per annum. 

The loan scheme is administered by Edu-loan (Tel: (012) 

429-8760 and (011) 670-6100). See Edu-loan application 

form – Centrefold. 

(B) PRESCRIBED FEES FOR 2007 

(1) Minimum amount payable on registration 

A minimum amount is payable on registration in respect of each 

module or paper for which the student registers. The minimum 

amount payable on registration is dependent on the number of 

individual study units for which the student registers. 

A minimum initial amount is payable with each registration. 

The minimum amount payable on registration will be forfeited 

should the relevant study unit be cancelled. 

Note that compulsory miscellaneous fees where applicable, 

are also payable on registration. These fees include the levy for 

students in foreign countries and levies for additional study 

material. 

Aer payment of the initial amount on registration, the 

outstanding balance must be paid before the relevant dates. 

(2) Prescribed student fees

• The LEVY FOR STUDENTS IN FOREIGN COUNTRIES must be 

paid in addition to the minimum initial payment on registration – see 

(3)(a) below.

signature is also required on the registration form. (If your

Cancellation on failure to pay fees

If students fail to pay any amount outstanding on their account before 

the date as indicated under E1(B)(2), their registration for the respective 

study units will be summarily cancelled by the University, and no 

appeal against such cancellation will be considered. In respect of each 

cancelled study unit, students will forfeit fees in accordance with D7. 

Thereaer, they will be registered only for the number of study units 

for which they had paid in full prior to the date as indicated.

All applications for cancellation must be in writing and addressed to

(A) 

FIRST-SEMESTER MODULES

they will forfeit the minimum amount payable on registration in 

respect of each study unit cancelled. 

• Students may, however, still cancel their examination entry aer 

28 February but they will not receive any financial benefit from 

such cancellation and will remain liable for the full fees in respect 

of the cancelled study units. 

• Students may, until 8 February 2007 apply to change their 

registration for a specific module from semester 1 to semester 2 

without forfeiting any fees. Aer this date, students will forfeit 

the minimum amount paid on registration in respect of the 

relevant module and will be required to again pay the minimum 

amount on registration for the relevant module. 

(B) 

SECOND-SEMESTER MODULES 

• Students (excluding students for doctor’s and certain master’s 

degrees – see below) may, until 15 August and on wrien 

request, cancel their registration for one or more modules. In 

such cases they will forfeit the minimum amount payable on 

registration in respect of each study unit cancelled.

by 15 May they will forfeit the minimum amount payable on registration 

in respect of each study unit cancelled. If their application is received

stipulated under E1(B)(2). 

Students may nevertheless cancel their examination entry for one or 

more study units aer 30 August but will not receive any financial 

benefit from such cancellation.

Students who are registered for honours modules and who do not wish to cancel 

all the modules for which they are registered, may not reduce their modules to 

less than two in their first year of study, students for the DTE (Postgraduate) 

who do not wish to cancel all their modules, must remain registered for at least 

two of the compulsory modules. 

(D) 

YEAR PAPERS/MODULES – SECOND CYCLE 

Students may, until 15 March 2008 and on wrien request, cancel their 

registration for one or more study units. If their application is received 

by 15 November 2007 they will forfeit the minimum amount payable on 

registration in respect of each study unit cancelled. If their application 

is received aer 15 November 2007, they will remain liable for any 

additional amounts as stipulated under E1(B)(2). 

Students who, aer 1 March 2007, change their semester offerings 

(from S1 to S2 or from S2 to S1) aer registration, forfeit the initial 

amount paid for the relevant module on registration and will again 

be required to pay the minimum amount in respect of the new 

registration. 

Students who are already registered for the 2007 academic year and 

wish to register for second-semester modules are NOT required to fill 

in another registration form. Such students must address a leer to the 

Registrar (Fax (012) 429-4150) detailing the modules for which they 

wish to register for the second semester Rules with regard to Fees will 

apply. 

In the following subjects, students may NOT write the examinations in 

BOTH modules in the same subject on first level at the same examination 

unless one of the modules is being repeated: Accounting, Business 

Management, Economics, and Industrial Psychology. 

Students who register for semester modules together with other 

study units which have a duration of one year will still be regarded 

as ‘semester students’. 

Students may nevertheless cancel their examination entry for one or 

more study units aer 30 March 2008 but will not receive any financial 

benefit from such cancellation. 

(E) 

CANCELLATION OF EXAMINATION ENTRIES 

If a student cancels his/her registration or examination entry for ALL 

his/her study units on or before the undermentioned dates, the year 2007 

will NOT count as a year of registration for purposes of readmission to 

studies. 

First semester modules: 28 February 

Second semester modules: 30 August 

Year papers/modules: 31 August 

If the students were registered for the first time at this University 

and such registration was cancelled in full before the relevant, 

abovementioned date(s), their next application for registration is also 

regarded as a first registration, inter alia, for the purpose of possible 

restrictions on the number of study units for which they may enrol. 

A student whose examination entry is cancelled will continue to receive 

tuition from the University and may submit assignments (where 

applicable), but NOT with a view to qualifying for admission to the 

examinations.

Semester registrations 

The registration dates for semester modules are stated in this brochure. 

NB 

• Tuition for the first-semester modules commences on 22 January 2007 

and students are advised NOT to register aer this date.
