This is not a lens designed to be 'bought on sight' - simply for looks, for size,
or for any other superficial reason, It's a lens designed with one overriding criterion:
oUlstanding performance. Its sha rpness and contrast are superb; it produces
results virtually undistinguishable from those of your best single focal
length lens.
11 is sturdily constructed and handling its silky smooth PUSH·PULL control gives
you a feeling of confidence.
Its wide zoom range covers all the telephoto focal lengths you'll normally use.
providing linear magnifications of approximately 11/2 to 4LjlX those of your normal
lens. Thanks to its outstanding optics, it performs superbly even with the
optional multicoated Spiratone 2X TelXtender which increases the upper zoom
range from 220 to 440mm. With this combination. the macro magnification ratio
also increases from an already impressive 2/3 lifesize to 1/3 larger than life·
size - a !otal range that's Virtually impossible to match with any other lens
system.
What this all adds up to is that with just the Spiratone '70·220' and the Spiratone
Pluracoat 2X TelXtender - weighing together only 51 oz. - you'll cover
every conceivable moderate, long, ultra long and macro requirement!
This is the famous lens which made mirror lens history as the first, top
quality, economy-priced, super-compact lens to equal or surpass the performance
of the much higher priced 'big brand' optics. Said 'Modern
Photography' when the lens was first introduced: "this lens must certainly
be the lightest, most compact bargain, quality super telephotQ optic
Behind Ihe lens metering with the Spiratone MINITEL Is a snap. Also, on all cameras with automatic
aperture-preferred systems (such as the Canon A-1, AV-1; Nikon FE, EM; Pentax ME, MV, K2;
Minolta XD, XG-1. 7,9; Olympus OM-2,10; Contax; Yashica FX-1, FR-1, 2. etc.), the MINITEL works
just like a fully automatic lens. On all other cameras with behind-the-Iens metering systems, you
simply determine exposure with the 'Slop-down' method. The MINITEL's effective aperture can be
reduced 101/16 wilh the neutral density filler; exposure Is always controlled by the choice of shutter
speed.
The Minitel-C also does an amazing job as a 'close-up'1elepholo lens; al a comfortable working
dis lance of about 12', it will sharply fililhe 35mm frame with a subject'even smaller than this page!
Ifyou have always wanted areaffy 'long'lens-withoulthe bulk, the weight and the price expected ol
Your new, long lens combination focuses just as close as
FISH-EYE LENS
Fits front of your lens, screws in like a filter
creates circular image, covering 180 0
just like
fish·eye lenses costing many times as mUCh.
Modern Photography reported their amazement
at the performance of 'one of the most interesting
lenses we've used in many years' when Spiratone
first introduced this lens, bringing the excitement
of fish·eye photography within the reach of every
photographer.
• "Sees" full 180 0 - every·
thing in front, below, to the
side of fens is included. That's
3X the angle of a 35mm WA
(on a 35mm camera)!
• Creates that sweeping effect
unique to fish-eye lenses.
• Enormous depth of field
depending on opening, from as
close as 1!J2' to infinity,
• Fits normal SLR lens, requires no extra finder.
• Adaptable to different focal length lenses andl
or different cameras (different' fittings may be reo
quired - most are Just $5 each), for varying
coverage and effect.
• Focuses to 1f2" for special effect shots - unbelievably
dramatic results can be produced at
close ra nge.
• On 35mm SLR, with normal lens, fish·eye image
has diameter of almost full format width; with
larger formal SLR's, circle becomes bigger (30mm
on 2% sq.) With telepholos, covers, full format
including corners, with less severe curvature.
Many of us work hard to produce a 'creative'
photograph, a photograph which is not just tech·
nically good, but which reflects our ability to pre·
sent a sUbject in a meaningful manner. But when
it comes to projecti ng th ese sl ides, we aImost
take it for granted that the simplest, straight·
forward way is the only way - and lei it go at that.
Yet, we have all seen and often envied the dazzle
and excitement of effective showmanship in a pro·
fessionally prepared slide presentation.
One of the reasons most of us don't even Iry to
compete with the pros is because we envision vast
amounts of costly equipment which is complicated
to use - so we accept the fact that our own slide
shows have to be dry and dreary, with the eyestraining
"image on, image off" projection cycle
- not too different from the way our ancestors
projected lantern slides for their friends and
children.
But·they needn't be! Your existing images, pre·
sented properly, can have infinitely more impact.
Thanks to Spiratone's introduction of a variety of
'creative projection control' devices, you can now
make a slide show as 'professional'. as entertain·
ing, as exciting as those you have seen al fairs,
museums, lectures and sales presentations.
Basically, these control devices allow you to dis'solve or fade one slide into the other, to flash
you need not ever again have to say: "And that's
Since every control device has special features,
in addition to its basic controls, your selection of
