This is not a lens designed to be 'bought on sight' - simply for looks, for size, 

or for any other superficial reason, It's a lens designed with one overriding criterion: 

oUlstanding performance. Its sha rpness and contrast are superb; it produces 

results virtually undistinguishable from those of your best single focal 

length lens.

Its wide zoom range covers all the telephoto focal lengths you'll normally use. 

providing linear magnifications of approximately 11/2 to 4LjlX those of your normal 

lens. Thanks to its outstanding optics, it performs superbly even with the 

optional multicoated Spiratone 2X TelXtender which increases the upper zoom 

range from 220 to 440mm. With this combination. the macro magnification ratio 

also increases from an already impressive 2/3 lifesize to 1/3 larger than life·

This is the famous lens which made mirror lens history as the first, top 

quality, economy-priced, super-compact lens to equal or surpass the performance 

of the much higher priced 'big brand' optics. Said 'Modern 

Photography' when the lens was first introduced: "this lens must certainly

Behind Ihe lens metering with the Spiratone MINITEL Is a snap. Also, on all cameras with automatic 

aperture-preferred systems (such as the Canon A-1, AV-1; Nikon FE, EM; Pentax ME, MV, K2; 

Minolta XD, XG-1. 7,9; Olympus OM-2,10; Contax; Yashica FX-1, FR-1, 2. etc.), the MINITEL works 

just like a fully automatic lens. On all other cameras with behind-the-Iens metering systems, you
