These <strong>services</strong> must<br />

include elements that:<br />

to interact with<br />

other service users,<br />

their families <strong>and</strong><br />

communities;<br />

<br />

long-term sobriety<br />

experiences;<br />

<br />

abstain from substance<br />

abuse;<br />

<br />

reintegration of a<br />

service user into<br />

society <strong>and</strong> family <strong>and</strong><br />

community life;<br />

<br />

of problems in the<br />

family that may<br />

contribute to substance<br />

abuse.<br />

Section 31 of the Act allows<br />

service users <strong>and</strong> persons<br />

affected by substance<br />

abuse to establish support<br />

groups that focus on<br />

ongoing integrated support<br />

to service users in their<br />

recovery.<br />

The purpose of the<br />

support groups is to:<br />

<br />

substance-free group<br />

experience to allow<br />

space to practise<br />

resocialisation skills;<br />

<br />

service users to persons<br />

in recovery who can<br />

serve as role models;<br />

<br />

users to broaden their<br />

support system.<br />
