The applicant will receive a portion only of the full amount of R1 010. Asset threshold xxiii Assets up to the value of R518 400 if the applicant is not married and assets up to the value of R1 036 800 if the applicant is married. Disability grant xxiv A monthly cash transfer of R1 080 (as at 1 April 2010) The applicant can get a temporary disability grant if the disability will last between six months and one year. The applicant will get a permanent disability grant if the disability will last for more than one year. Targeted beneficiaries Adults who are disabled and living in poverty, who because of their disability cannot support themselves A disability is defined in the Social Assistance Amendment Bill (effective from 1 March 2010) as the moderate to severe limitation of an applicant’s ability to function as a result of a physical, sensory, communication, intellectual or mental disability, which makes an applicant unable to obtain the means needed to enable him or her to provide for his or her own maintenance or be gainfully employed.
