The new Sexual<br />

Offences Act<br />

criminalises the<br />

following sexual<br />

offences against<br />

children: rape<br />

(which is now more<br />

broadly defined than<br />

at common law to<br />

include all acts of<br />

sexual penetration<br />

without consent by<br />

<strong>and</strong>/or against males<br />

<strong>and</strong> females); sexual<br />

(indecent) assault,<br />

which is defined<br />

as unlawful sexual<br />

violation that does<br />

not involve sexual<br />

penetration, such as<br />

kissing <strong>and</strong> touching;<br />

incest; consensual<br />

sex with all children<br />

(statutory rape) (s15);<br />

sexual exploitation<br />

(s17) of a child which<br />

involves engaging the<br />

<strong>services</strong> of a child <strong>for</strong><br />

reward <strong>for</strong> the purposes<br />

of sexual acts; sexual<br />

grooming (s18) of a<br />

child, which includes<br />

exposing a child to<br />

pornography or any<br />

other item with the<br />

intent to encourage the<br />

child to per<strong>for</strong>m a sex<br />

act, <strong>and</strong> committing any<br />

act with the intent to<br />

encourage or diminish<br />
