between R1 501 <strong>and</strong><br />

R3 500 per month. This<br />

includes those who<br />

receive a social grant.<br />

Amount of the subsidy<br />

R1 501–R3 500 per<br />

month = R43 506<br />

Capital contribution<br />

No capital contribution<br />

is payable by an older<br />

person.<br />

Documents required<br />

listed under the<br />

individual subsidy,<br />

plus proof of income<br />

received from a social<br />

grant, if relevant<br />

<br />

application <strong>for</strong><br />

exemption <strong>for</strong> capital<br />

contribution<br />

Housing<br />

subsidy <strong>for</strong><br />

the disabled<br />

Applicants who are<br />

disabled can apply <strong>for</strong><br />

the individual subsidy<br />

<strong>and</strong>, if they earn more<br />

than R1 500 per month,<br />

will not have to pay the<br />

capital contribution.<br />

In addition, applicants<br />

with a disability may<br />

apply <strong>for</strong> an increased<br />

subsidy to enable them<br />

to make additions to<br />

their houses to allow <strong>for</strong><br />

independent living in<br />

normal residential areas.<br />

This would include<br />

concrete aprons <strong>and</strong><br />

ramps to facilitate access<br />

to the house, grab rails<br />

in the bathroom, kick<br />

plates to the doors,<br />

visible doorbells <strong>and</strong><br />

special access to toilets.<br />
