Government-funded programmes and services for vulnerable children in SA
adapted to be accessible
to all children.
This requires that
infrastructure like toilet
facilities, wheelchair
ramps and furniture
must be able to
accommodate children
with limited mobility
and other disabilities
(s2.10).
Access to learning is
inhibited not only by
inaccessible spaces,
but also by a lack
of assistive devices
necessary for mobility
and participation in
lessons. This includes
devices such as
wheelchairs and hearing
aids, which must be
made progressively
available to learners
who are denied access
because of lack of
appropriate resources.
These services must be
prioritised in full-service
schools (DoE 2001).
