negative, the mother<br />

continues breastfeeding<br />

<strong>for</strong> six months <strong>and</strong><br />

CTX continues until the<br />

breastfeeding is stopped<br />

<strong>and</strong> the infant tests<br />

negative <strong>for</strong> HIV. The<br />

infant is tested every six<br />

weeks.<br />

Once the breastfeeding<br />

is stopped, a Rapid HIV<br />

test must be done at 18<br />

months.<br />

If the PCR test is<br />

positive, there must be a<br />

prompt referral <strong>for</strong> ART.<br />

The status of the child<br />

must be confirmed with<br />

a viral load test. The<br />

mother must exclusively<br />

breastfeed <strong>for</strong> two years.<br />

Infant CTX is continued.<br />

<br />

breastfed <strong>and</strong> the<br />

mother is not on<br />

lifelong ART:<br />

At six weeks a PCR test<br />

is conducted, the infant<br />

NVP continues <strong>and</strong> CTX<br />

is started.<br />

If the PCR test is<br />

negative, the mother<br />

continues exclusive<br />

breastfeeding <strong>for</strong> six<br />

months <strong>and</strong> the NVP is<br />

continued until<br />
