A few months after automating
their workflow, layout time is cut in
half and throughput has doubled
At Trisoft Graphics Inc, strong and
sustained growth—enabled in part
by Kodak’s screening and flexo plate
technologies—put pressure on the
prepress workflow. Thanks to the
automation options in their new Kodak
Prinergy Powerpack Workflow, the Costa
Mesa-based company has managed
to meet the need, and double their
throughput with no increase in staff.
Trisoft is a high-end trade shop, providing
prepress and platemaking services for
the packaging industry. The company
serves the tag and label market (narrow
web flexo), the packaging and folding card
market (mid web flexo) and the flexible
packaging and bag market (wide web
flexo). They were the first West Coast
company to install a Kodak Flexcel NX
Digital Flexographic System, which provides
far higher resolution, sharper text and more
vibrant colors. “The Flexcel NX System gives
us a quality advantage that separates us
from our competition,” says Owner Tristan
Zafra. “When we switched to the Flexcel NX
System, our business really grew.”
Zafra felt that workflow automation was
the key to managing their growth while
remaining competitive. However their
existing workflow’s automation options
were very basic. “It prevented us from
doing what we wanted, so I started looking
around. Of course I looked at all the
competitors, but when I saw the Kodak
demo, I knew what I could accomplish.

Thanks to the Prinergy Powerpack
Workflow, production volume has
doubled. “It has really helped us
tremendously,” says Zafra. Randy Mayer,
the Plant Manager of the Costa Mesa
facility, has been primarily responsible
for customizing the Prinergy Powerpack
Workflow and its automation. While he’s
new to RBA Software, he says, it’s already
proven its value and they’re learning more
every day. “So far, we’ve been able to
automate our archiving process, automate
some of our proofing processes, automate
some of the internal notes in our jobs. And
we’re just scratching the surface.”

Portal System. “The InSite Prepress Portal
System has been a great thing for us, and
with RBA Software we’ll do even more.
We’ll create a job in the InSite Prepress
Portal System, and the client will enter the
job information once, and that information
will populate the job, and it’ll also go to the
MIS system, and from there to accounting
and billing and shipping and everything.”
By eliminating the need to enter job data
multiple times, Trisoft saves manual
tasks, and more importantly, removes an
opportunity for error. Mayer says, “RBA
has all kinds of applications. The more you
learn the more you see new things you’ll
be able to do with it. It’s exciting for me.

tie that together and there isn’t another

As for Packaging Layout Automation, or
PLA, Mayer states, “It’s incredible. We are
almost 100% PLA on our jobs now. With
PLA, you don’t have to create a layout,
or do a manual step-and-repeat. Instead,
you simply enter the number across and
around, and put in your artwork and any
marks, and hit a button. The press sheet
goes in automatically. It cuts our step-andrepeat
time in half. There’s no more need
to try and figure out what the layout is
going to be—which is so time consuming.”
The operators no longer open their stepand-repeat
software unless there’s a need
for a special adjustment. “It’s all under
the hood now. With PLA, the layout goes
at twice the speed that it did before, and
that’s a huge time saving.”
