at WorldSkills Leipzig 2013!<br />

The UNESCO-<strong>UNEVOC</strong> International Centre for Technical and<br />

Vocational Education and Training will be present during a number<br />

of side events, workshops and conferences at WorldSkills Leipzig<br />

2013, from 1 to 7 July 2013. Here is an overview.<br />

“Green Industrial Skills for Sustainable Development: Risks and Challenges for Least-<br />

Developed Countries”.<br />

1 July 2013, 09:30 to 17:45 (open event –registration required)<br />

Shyamal Majumdar, Head of the UNESCO-<strong>UNEVOC</strong> International Centre for Technical and<br />

Vocational Education and Training, to chair a roundtable discussion from 14:00 to 15:00.<br />

UNIDO 1 and WorldSkills Germany are jointly organizing this conference with the support of<br />

BMZ 2 and the WorldSkills Foundation.<br />

The main purpose of the conference is to increase awareness on the importance of green<br />

industrial skills development amongst countries worldwide, to promote green industrial<br />

skills for a better future of deprived young people, and to enhance their chance of<br />

employment and income.<br />

The plenary discussion and following roundtables shall provide input for potential policy<br />

change and national <strong>programme</strong>s in the area of education and green skills development,<br />

and shall give an opportunity to directly exchange knowledge and expertise of high-level<br />

decision-makers coming from various fields around the globe, such as national<br />

governments, academia, UN organizations, civil society and the private sector.<br />

BIBB Global Partners Meeting (by invitation only)<br />

in cooperation with UNESCO-<strong>UNEVOC</strong>.<br />

BIBB 3 maintains co-operation agreements with 30 vocational education institutions<br />

worldwide. Participants invited by BIBB will examine the topics of green skills and greening<br />

TVET from different angles during a 3-day conference and workshop <strong>programme</strong>. L. Hunter<br />

Lovins, co-author of Natural Capitalism, will be a keynote speaker. During an attractive<br />

<strong>programme</strong> including the visit of numerous WorldSkills events and a tour of the<br />

Competence Centre Building and Education Leipzig, as well as the Partner Exchange there<br />

will be enough time for the colleagues to exchange experiences and to network.<br />

In the context of the Global Partners Meeting, UNESCO-<strong>UNEVOC</strong> will lead a panel<br />

The Global Skills Marketplace (GSM) is the international forum where members and guests<br />

are invited to “Discover Skills Unlimited”. It takes place in the Conference Center (CCL) on<br />

Friday, 5 July, from 10 to 16.00h, in five seminar sessions covering different topics. This<br />

specific seminar series aim to demonstrate the broad spectrum of current developments in<br />

vocational and education training worldwide and to share successful best-practice<br />

examples. Within these sessions it will be discussed how WorldSkills International, its<br />

Members, Germany (as the host of WorldSkills Leipzig 2013), and partners from areas such<br />

as industry, government and education act upon the challenges of globalization. Diverse<br />

perspectives and different backgrounds shall provide a stage which stimulates discussions<br />

and knowledge sharing between participants and presenters.<br />

1B - Development of ICT-based teaching and learning media: “Global Campus 21” as an<br />

at the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), to name but a few.<br />

(by invitation only)International vocational competitions such as WorldSkills Leipzig 2013<br />

make the quality, innovations, the future viability, and the significance of vocational<br />

training visual and easily experienced. The Conference – a joint venture by BMBF and OECD<br />

has the goal to convey the significance of vocational training in specific segments such as<br />

on-job training to an international specialised public and make national modernizations of<br />

vocational training profit from the international wealth of experience. The conference will<br />

bring together policy makers, researchers and business representatives from around the<br />

world to discuss key policy challenges and potential solutions.<br />

Global Skills Exchange: Tackling the global talent gap<br />

6 July 2013, 08:30 - 17:00 (open event – registration needed)<br />

Borhene Chakroun, Chief of UNESCO’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training<br />

Section, will speak at the Global Skills Exchange. Special guest is Her Excellency, Amena<br />

Afzali, Minister of Labour & Social Affairs, Afghanistan.<br />

The next global skills challenge is about tackling the massive imbalances and skills gaps that<br />

exist between developed and emerging economies, skills mismatches which hold back<br />

productivity, competitiveness and development. Skills mismatches obstruct mobility<br />

essential to quality and productivity improvement in business and inward investment. The<br />

conference looks at the experiences and policy dilemmas of G7, BRICS, MENA and Gazelles<br />

country models, transnational companies, and key global business sectors. It will see the<br />

publication of new research on the factors critical to improving vocational and technical<br />

education mobility.<br />

Skills are the new global currency. This ground-breaking event will investigate new<br />

approaches to tackling skills mismatches, including the recognition and validation of skills<br />

from an industry and transnational perspective.
