To date, seven Task <strong>For</strong>ces are active on the following themes:<br />

• <strong>Sustainable</strong> Lifestyles (hosted by Sweden)<br />

• <strong>Sustainable</strong> Public Procurement (hosted by Switzerl<strong>and</strong>)<br />

• <strong>Sustainable</strong> Tourism (hosted by France)<br />

• <strong>Sustainable</strong> Buildings <strong>and</strong> Construction (hosted by Finl<strong>and</strong>)<br />

• Education for <strong>Sustainable</strong> <strong>Consumption</strong> (hosted by Italy)<br />

Some of the activities <strong>and</strong> material developed by the TFs include demonstration projects<br />

on National Action Plans on SCP, manual on communicating sustainability (<strong>and</strong> training<br />

workshops in Brazil, China), Tool Kit on <strong>Sustainable</strong> Public Procurement (<strong>and</strong> a<br />

demonstration project in Argentina), study on <strong>Sustainable</strong> Building <strong>and</strong> Construction <strong>and</strong><br />

Climate Change; study on Tourism <strong>and</strong> Climate Change; manual on <strong>Sustainable</strong> Costal<br />

Management; a campaign on sustainable holidays in Brazil; collection of best practices<br />

by all task forces, among many other activities. 29<br />

The global SCP taskforce on Cooperation with Africa lead by Germany has the goal of<br />

supporting the planning, development <strong>and</strong> implementation of ARSCP’s activities. It is<br />

meant to encourage <strong>and</strong> support African countries in the integration of SCP in existing<br />

plans <strong>and</strong> programmes <strong>and</strong> in developing national <strong>and</strong>/or city-wide action plans on SCP.<br />

The TF is developing <strong>and</strong> implementing a number of projects for the region, such as a<br />

project on developing an African eco-labelling scheme; the development <strong>and</strong><br />

implementation of SCP action plans at the national <strong>and</strong> local level; <strong>and</strong> a collection of<br />

Best Practice on SCP projects by development agencies 30 .<br />

3.2.2 Africa<br />

The starting point for a regional roundtable as a forum for sharing experience <strong>and</strong><br />

disseminating information in Africa was the nine National Cleaner Production Centres<br />

(NCPCs) that operate in the continent. The First Roundtable on Cleaner Production <strong>and</strong><br />

<strong>Consumption</strong> was organized in Nairobi in 2000 followed by the Second African<br />

Roundtable on <strong>Sustainable</strong> <strong>Consumption</strong> <strong>and</strong> Production (ARSCP) held in 2002 in<br />

Arusha, Tanzania.<br />

ARSCP-3 was organized in Casablanca in 2004 with the objective of institutionalizing<br />

ARSCP <strong>and</strong> developing a regional strategy under the 10YFP through the first expert<br />

meeting 31 .<br />

In the conclusion of its first status report of 2002-2004, ARSCP highlighted what is<br />

imperative to do with regard to SCP in Africa namely, ensuring the institutional<br />

sustainability of NCPCs, broadening the scope of activities from CP to SCP, improving<br />
