AHBAI is accepting scholarship applications from college-bound students through it's Fred Luster, Sr.<br />

Education Foundation. Scholarships will be awarded in <strong>the</strong> amounts <strong>of</strong> $250 and $500. Winners will be selected<br />

based on <strong>the</strong>ir academic achievement, school activities and extracurricular activities.<br />

To be eligible for a scholarship: Candidates must be college-bound high school seniors enrolled at a four-year<br />

college, majoring in chemistry, business or engineering. A minimum 3.0 grade point average (4.0 scale) and<br />

two letters <strong>of</strong> recommendation, pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> income (W2) are also required.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Fred Luster, Sr. Education Foundation was established by <strong>the</strong> AHBAI Board <strong>of</strong> Direc<strong>to</strong>rs in 1991 in honor<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> late Fred Luster, Sr., a founding AHBAI board member and founder <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Chicago-based Luster<br />

Products, Inc. To date, <strong>the</strong> Foundation has awarded more than $235,000 in <strong>scholarships</strong>.<br />

Liberal arts students wishing <strong>to</strong> pursue graduate accounting study can receive financial aid through <strong>the</strong> AICPA<br />

John L. Carey Scholarships Program. <strong>The</strong>se <strong>scholarships</strong> are available <strong>to</strong> all liberal arts degree holders <strong>of</strong> any<br />

regionally-accredited U.S. institution who wish <strong>to</strong> pursue a CPA certificate. Scholarships are based on academic<br />

achievement, leadership and future career interests and are contingent upon acceptance in a graduate accounting<br />

program. Up <strong>to</strong> five (7) recipients will be awarded $5,000 and will be eligible for renewal for one more year,<br />

provided satisfac<strong>to</strong>ry scholastic progress is maintained. Deadline for submission <strong>of</strong> application is April 1 st<br />

Essay competition for students enrolled in an undergraduate business program. Essays are judged on both style<br />

and content. Winning essays must demonstrate an outstanding grasp <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> philosophical meaning <strong>of</strong> Ayn<br />

Rand’s novel, Atlas Shrugged. Length <strong>of</strong> essay 1,000 <strong>to</strong> 1,200 words.<br />

TO APPLY YOU MUST MEET ALL OF THE CRITERIA LISTED BELOW<br />

<strong>The</strong> selections will be based on <strong>the</strong> <strong>following</strong>:<br />

• Applicants must be high school seniors, high school graduates, or enrolled in undergraduate school.<br />

• Applicants must be under <strong>the</strong> age <strong>of</strong> 40. Associates and/or dependents <strong>of</strong> associates <strong>of</strong> Bank <strong>of</strong> America are<br />

not eligible <strong>to</strong> apply.<br />

• Applicants must <strong>have</strong> a minimum cumulative GPA <strong>of</strong> 2.5 on <strong>the</strong> most recent transcript.<br />

• Applicants must plan <strong>to</strong> attend college in <strong>the</strong> fall <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> year <strong>the</strong> award is made.<br />

• Applicants must pursue a degree in Finance, Business or Computer Systems AND plan on a career with a<br />

banking institution.<br />

• Applicants must maintain a permanent residence in states where Bank <strong>of</strong> America has retail locations:<br />

Arizona, Arkansas, California, Connecticut, District <strong>of</strong> Columbia, Metropolitan Washing<strong>to</strong>n DC, Florida,<br />

Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, Nevada, New<br />

Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, News York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania,<br />

Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Washing<strong>to</strong>n.<br />

• Applicants must <strong>have</strong> written documentation from an appropriate provider supporting that <strong>the</strong> candidate<br />

meets <strong>the</strong> definition <strong>of</strong> disabled as defined by <strong>the</strong> Americans with Disabilities Act.<br />

• Applicants must be US citizens.
