This is <strong>the</strong> 14th year <strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>fering a scholarship program for sports journalism. This program is designed<br />

specifically <strong>to</strong> assist future sports journalists, while promoting quality sports journalism education at <strong>the</strong><br />

NCAA announces <strong>the</strong> availability <strong>of</strong> <strong>scholarships</strong> for ethnic minorities and women interested in pursuing an<br />

advanced degree in a sports-related field. <strong>The</strong> <strong>scholarships</strong> are available through <strong>the</strong> NCAA Ethnic Minority<br />

and Women’s Enhancement Programs. <strong>The</strong> NCAA awards 13 <strong>scholarships</strong> <strong>to</strong> ethnic minorities and 13<br />

<strong>scholarships</strong> <strong>to</strong> women college graduates who will be entering <strong>the</strong>ir initial year <strong>of</strong> postgraduate studies. Each<br />

award is valued at $6,000. For both <strong>scholarships</strong>, three additional $6,000. <strong>scholarships</strong> are awarded <strong>to</strong> students<br />

who <strong>have</strong> completed undergraduate study at Division III institutions.<br />

Please note <strong>the</strong> student must be a U.S. Citizen. Awardees <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> scholarship must be entering <strong>the</strong>ir initial<br />

postgraduate studies during <strong>the</strong> 2006-2007 academic year, and <strong>the</strong>y must be a full-time student at all times<br />

while using <strong>the</strong> award.<br />

Official transcript(s) must arrive, not be postmarked, by <strong>the</strong> deadline in order for <strong>the</strong> application <strong>to</strong> be complete<br />

and be reviewed. <strong>The</strong> application deadline is January 18, 2006 and it may be submitted online only (no hard<br />

Twelve <strong>scholarships</strong>/grants in <strong>the</strong> amount <strong>of</strong> $1,250 will be available <strong>to</strong> African-American students who are:<br />

o Residents <strong>of</strong> New England<br />

o Attending or planning <strong>to</strong> attend a New England college/university<br />

o US citizen or permanent resident<br />

o Majoring in/or interested in science, technology, engineering or ma<strong>the</strong>matics<br />

o High school senior or college freshman or sophomore.<br />
