country’s most influential and challenging institutions.
o Since 1999 the League has given away $10 million in scholarships to deserving African-
American students seeking to attend college but is in need of financial support.

The applicant must :
o be enrolled full time as a high school senior, progressing normally toward graduation in the spring or
summer of 2007, with plans to enter college no later than the fall following graduation;
o have a strong commitment to pursue a bachelor's degree at an accredited institution (students may start
their studies at a two-year institution and then transfer to a four-year institution);
o demonstrate critical financial need ($50,000 or less adjusted gross income per family is preferred; if
higher, explanation must be provided);
o demonstrate involvement in co-curricular and community activities;
o demonstrate academic achievement (minimum grade point average of 2.0);
o be a resident of one of the states where the Horatio Alger Association does not offer a state scholarship
program: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Kansas, Maine,
Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North
Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont,
Washington, West Virginia, and Wisconsin; and
o be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
Amount of scholarship is $1,000. and up to 150 schoalrships will be awarded. Refer to website for filing
