BETTY RENDEL SCHOLARSHIP<br />

<strong>The</strong> National Federation <strong>of</strong> Republican Women established <strong>the</strong> Betty Rendel Scholarship Fund<br />

in September 1995 in honor <strong>of</strong> NFRW Past President Betty Rendel’s extraordinary leadership<br />

skills and dedication <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Republican Party in her home state <strong>of</strong> Indiana, as well as at <strong>the</strong><br />

national level. <strong>The</strong> three annual <strong>scholarships</strong> <strong>of</strong> $1,000 are awarded <strong>to</strong> undergraduates who are<br />

majoring in political science, government or economics and <strong>have</strong> successfully completed at least<br />

two years <strong>of</strong> college coursework. <strong>The</strong> recipients are chosen from applicants from across <strong>the</strong><br />

nation. Scholarship winners may not reapply.<br />

Each year at its National Convention in July, <strong>the</strong> NFB gives a broad array <strong>of</strong> <strong>scholarships</strong> <strong>to</strong> recognize<br />

achievement by blind scholars. All applicants for <strong>the</strong>se <strong>scholarships</strong> must be (1) legally blind and (2) pursuing<br />

or planning <strong>to</strong> pursue a fulltime, postsecondary course <strong>of</strong> study in a degree program at a United States<br />

institution, except that one scholarship may be given <strong>to</strong> a fulltime employee also attending school part-time. In<br />

addition, some <strong>scholarships</strong> <strong>have</strong> <strong>been</strong> fur<strong>the</strong>r restricted by <strong>the</strong> donor. Each applicant will be considered for all<br />

<strong>scholarships</strong> for which he or she qualifies. <strong>The</strong> scholarship application deadline is March 31.<br />

• National Italian American Foundation Scholarship<br />

<strong>The</strong> National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) has scholarship funding <strong>to</strong> award <strong>to</strong> outstanding students<br />

during summer for use during <strong>the</strong> <strong>following</strong> academic year. <strong>The</strong> awards will be made on <strong>the</strong> basis <strong>of</strong> academic<br />

merit and divided between two groups <strong>of</strong> students.<br />

General Category I: Italian American students who demonstrate outstanding potential and high academic<br />

achievements. Area <strong>of</strong> study – open.<br />

General Category II: Those students from any ethnic background majoring or minoring in Italian language,<br />

Italian studies, Italian American studies or a related field, who demonstrate outstanding potential and high<br />

academic achievements. Scholarships range $2,000 - $5,000. Each scholarship award can cover eligible<br />

academic expenses (tuition, books, fees, and university-provided room and board). Scholarship recipients are<br />

eligible for one year <strong>of</strong> scholarship support. Applicants and winners can and are encouraged <strong>to</strong> reapply in<br />

subsequent years. Deadlines are: Apply on line April 30, 2001, teacher evaluation form must be postmarked,<br />

transcripts by mail must be postmarked.<br />
