Eligibility Requirements:<br />

Spouse, child, or stepchild <strong>of</strong> a fallen firefighter honored at <strong>the</strong> National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in<br />

Emmitsburg, Maryland; Children must currently be under <strong>the</strong> age <strong>of</strong> 30 or <strong>have</strong> <strong>been</strong> under <strong>the</strong> age <strong>of</strong> 22 at <strong>the</strong><br />

time <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir firefighter's death; High school diploma or equivalency, or in <strong>the</strong> final year <strong>of</strong> high school;<br />

Currently pursuing or planning <strong>to</strong> pursue undergraduate or graduate studies, vocational-technical training, a<br />

certification program, or job skills training at an accredited institution; Currently enrolled or planning <strong>to</strong> enroll<br />

as a full- or part-time student; Minimum cumulative grade point average <strong>of</strong> 2.0 on a 4.0 scale or "C"average for<br />

applicants pursuing an academic degree.<br />

Selection Criteria: Academic standing ; Statement <strong>of</strong> Interest including personal, academic and career goals as<br />

well as involvement in extracurricular activities, including community and volunteer activities;<br />

Two letters <strong>of</strong> recommendation - One letter should be from a teacher, employer, or a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> community<br />

familiar with you and your goals and <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r from a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> fire service. If it is not possible <strong>to</strong> provide<br />

a letter from a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> fire service, please attach an explanation.<br />

• National Federation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Blind<br />

Each year at its national convention in July, <strong>the</strong> NFB gives a broad array <strong>of</strong> <strong>scholarships</strong> <strong>to</strong> recognize<br />

achievement by blind scholars. All applicants for <strong>the</strong>se <strong>scholarships</strong> must be (1) legally blind and (2) pursuing<br />

or planning <strong>to</strong> pursue a full-time, postsecondary course <strong>of</strong> study in a degree program at a United States’<br />

institution in <strong>the</strong> fall <strong>of</strong> 2007, except that one scholarship may be given <strong>to</strong> a full-time employee also attending<br />

school part-time. In addition, some <strong>scholarships</strong> <strong>have</strong> <strong>been</strong> fur<strong>the</strong>r restricted by <strong>the</strong> donor. Each applicant will<br />

be considered for all <strong>scholarships</strong> for which he or she qualifies. <strong>The</strong> scholarship application deadline is March<br />

31, 2007. Scholarships <strong>to</strong> be given at <strong>the</strong> 2007 National Convention are listed with special restrictions noted:<br />

o NATIONAL PATHFINDER SCHOLARSHIP<br />

<strong>The</strong> National Federation <strong>of</strong> Republican Women established <strong>the</strong> National Pathfinder Scholarship<br />

Fund in 1985 in honor <strong>of</strong> First Lady Nancy Reagan. <strong>The</strong> three annual <strong>scholarships</strong> <strong>of</strong> $2,500<br />

provide financial assistance and support <strong>to</strong> students seeking undergraduate or graduate degrees.<br />

Undergraduate sophomores, juniors and seniors, as well as students enrolled in a master's degree<br />

program, are eligible <strong>to</strong> apply for <strong>the</strong> scholarship. Recent high school graduates and<br />

undergraduate freshmen are not eligible. Scholarship winners may not reapply.
