Eligibility.<br />

Children and spouses <strong>of</strong> members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Non Commissioned Officers Association. Awards not<br />

limited by race, color, creed, national origin or sex. For undergraduate study at accredited<br />

colleges and universities. Children <strong>of</strong> members must be under age 25 <strong>to</strong> receive initial grant.<br />

Grants <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> designated school may be used for room and board, tuition, library fees, textbooks<br />

and related instructional material. 16 new awards annually.<br />

<strong>The</strong> US Army can assist students as <strong>the</strong>y face <strong>the</strong> task <strong>of</strong> trying <strong>to</strong> pa <strong>of</strong>f <strong>the</strong>ir loans. If students<br />

borrowed through <strong>the</strong> Federal Perkins Loan, <strong>the</strong> Federal Stafford Loan or o<strong>the</strong>r qualifying<br />

federally issued student loan, <strong>the</strong> Loan Repayment Program can eliminate <strong>the</strong> majority <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

debt within 4-8 years after graduation. For a student who enlists in <strong>the</strong> Regular Army, each year<br />

<strong>of</strong> active duty reduces college indebtedness by one-third or $1,500 which ever is greater, up <strong>to</strong> a<br />

maximum <strong>of</strong> $65,000. For an Army Reservist, each year served eliminates 15 percent <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

outstanding loans or $500, whichever is greater, up <strong>to</strong> a maximum <strong>of</strong> $20,000.<br />

College students usually join <strong>the</strong> Army at a higher rant and higher pay grade. Educational level<br />

typically qualified college students for more sophisticated Army specialties. Leadership<br />

opportunities can open up more quickly for someone who enters <strong>the</strong> service with a higher<br />

education level. Finally, when active duty is completed, college students can be debt free and<br />

include a meaningful experience that employers value on <strong>the</strong>ir job resume.<br />
