<strong>The</strong> Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation is a non-pr<strong>of</strong>it, tax exempt corporation supported by volunteers. <strong>The</strong><br />

foundation provides financial assistance in <strong>the</strong> form <strong>of</strong> <strong>scholarships</strong> <strong>to</strong> sons and daughters <strong>of</strong> current or former<br />

U.S. Marines in <strong>the</strong>ir pursuit <strong>of</strong> higher education.<br />

Who is eligible <strong>to</strong> apply? <strong>The</strong> son or daughter <strong>of</strong> a active duty or reserve U.S. Marine. U.S. Marine who has<br />

received an Honorable Discharge, Medical Discharge or was killed while serving <strong>the</strong> Corp. Active duty or<br />

reserve U.S. Corpsman who served with <strong>the</strong> U.S. Marines.<br />

<strong>The</strong> grandchild <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>following</strong>: U.S. Marine who served in <strong>the</strong> 4th Marine Division during WWII. A marine<br />

who served in <strong>the</strong> 6th Marine Division or a U.S. Marine who served in <strong>the</strong> 31 Gray Ghost Squadron. A high<br />

school graduate, registered as an undergraduate student at an accredited institution and eligible applicants from<br />

families with a maximum adjusted gross income <strong>of</strong> $61,000. or less.<br />

How are <strong>the</strong> <strong>scholarships</strong> awarded? All applicants must complete <strong>the</strong> FAFSA application . Scholarships are<br />

targeted at eligible applicants from families with a maximum adjusted gross income <strong>of</strong> $61,000. or less.<br />

Application process: First time applicants must submit a 300 word essay on <strong>the</strong> <strong>following</strong> question. What is <strong>the</strong><br />

most valuable lesson you <strong>have</strong> learned and who was responsible for teaching it? Sign and date your essay and<br />

submit application also.<br />

When can I apply for this scholarship? Graduating high school seniors, application submission deadline, March<br />

1, 2007 – notification by April 16, 2007. All o<strong>the</strong>r students, application submission deadline, April 15, 2007<br />

• Martin Lu<strong>the</strong>r King, Jr. Scholars Program<br />

<strong>The</strong> U.S. Department <strong>of</strong> Education is <strong>of</strong>fering <strong>the</strong> Martin Lu<strong>the</strong>r King, Jr., Scholarship program for <strong>the</strong> third<br />

year, which President Bush announced on January 21, 2002. <strong>The</strong> program was established in commemoration<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> late Dr. Martin Lu<strong>the</strong>r King, Jr., and has contributions <strong>to</strong> civil and human rights in America. Under this<br />

initiative, continuing juniors, seniors, or graduate students are eligible <strong>to</strong> apply for an eight week, paid<br />

internship in <strong>the</strong> United States Department <strong>of</strong> Education Washing<strong>to</strong>n, DC.<br />

Up <strong>to</strong> ten outstanding undergraduate or graduate students with an interest in education policy or public policy<br />

and administration will be selected <strong>to</strong> participate in <strong>the</strong> program this summer.<br />

Students must be enrolled on a full-time basis in an accredited undergraduate or graduate degree program and<br />

<strong>have</strong> plans <strong>to</strong> register for <strong>the</strong> fall semester. Students can be from any field <strong>of</strong> study. NOTE: Graduating<br />

baccalaureate, master’s or doc<strong>to</strong>ral students who are not enrolled and continuing <strong>the</strong>ir education in <strong>the</strong> academic<br />

semester <strong>following</strong> <strong>the</strong> summer internship are not “continuing students” and are not eligible for this program.<br />

Students must be in good academic standing (academic transcripts required). Two academic references will also<br />

be a required part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> student’s application.<br />
