LAANE, Learning Assistance Association <strong>of</strong> New England, was organized in 1983 and is an affiliate <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> National Association <strong>of</strong><br />

Developmental Education (NADE). At this year’s Fall 2006 Conference, LAANE will, for <strong>the</strong> first time, <strong>of</strong>fer a $750 student<br />

scholarship.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Scholarship will be awarded <strong>to</strong> a student who, at <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong> application:<br />

Is admitted <strong>to</strong> a bachelor's or associate's degree program.<br />

Was admitted <strong>to</strong> and/or has completed at least 8 credits <strong>of</strong> developmental coursework (LAC020, LAC021, LAC022, Writing<br />

Tu<strong>to</strong>rial)<br />

Has earned at least 24 credits.<br />

Has a cumulative GPA <strong>of</strong> at least 3.2.<br />

Will be a continuing student (graduating students are ineligible <strong>to</strong> apply).<br />

<strong>The</strong> student must provide:<br />

An <strong>of</strong>ficial transcript<br />

Evidence <strong>of</strong> enrollment in coursework at <strong>the</strong> home institution for <strong>the</strong> semester <strong>following</strong> <strong>the</strong> awarding <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> scholarship<br />

A letter <strong>of</strong> recommendation from course instruc<strong>to</strong>r or academic advisor<br />

An essay addressing one <strong>of</strong> several writing prompts related <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> role <strong>of</strong> developmental education<br />

Application may be picked up at <strong>the</strong> Learning Assistance Center or go <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> above web site.<br />

• Leopold Schepp Foundation Undergraduate Awards<br />

<strong>The</strong> Foundation grants approximately 200 individual awards each year <strong>to</strong> both full time undergraduate students<br />

enrolled in four year bachelor programs and <strong>to</strong> full time graduate students. Applicants must ei<strong>the</strong>r be currently<br />

enrolled or must <strong>have</strong> completed one year <strong>of</strong> undergraduate work at an accredited college or university. High<br />

school seniors are not eligible <strong>to</strong> apply.<br />

• LULAC National Scholarship Fund (LNSF)<br />

Run completely at <strong>the</strong> local, grassroots level, <strong>the</strong> LNSF is coordinated nationally by LNESC. We bring <strong>to</strong>ge<strong>the</strong>r<br />

local fund raising efforts with corporate partners <strong>to</strong> provide over $750,000.00 in <strong>scholarships</strong> <strong>to</strong> all levels <strong>of</strong><br />

degree seeking students each year.<br />

Under no circumstances should applications for <strong>the</strong> LNSF be mailed <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> national <strong>of</strong>fice. Only students<br />

in areas with participating councils are eligible <strong>to</strong> apply. Please send your application <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> council in<br />

your area.<br />

• Major General James Ursano Scholarship Fund<br />

This scholarship is for Dependent Children <strong>of</strong> Army Soldiers, and is administered by <strong>the</strong> Army Emergency<br />

Relief. <strong>The</strong> AER is a private non-pr<strong>of</strong>it organization with <strong>the</strong> primary mission <strong>of</strong> providing financial assistance<br />

<strong>to</strong> Army Soldiers and <strong>the</strong>ir dependent in time <strong>of</strong> valid emergency need.<br />

Scholarship Program Eligibility: - Applicants must be:<br />

• Dependent children, stepchildren or legally adopted children <strong>of</strong> Army soldiers on active duty, retired or<br />

deceased while on a active duty or after retirement.<br />

• <strong>The</strong> children <strong>of</strong> Grey Area Reservists are also eligible.<br />

• Unmarried for <strong>the</strong> entire academic year.<br />

• Student may apply online on our website, www.aerhq.org after November 1st
