Amnesty International is accepting applications for <strong>scholarships</strong> <strong>to</strong> fund internships or service projects that<br />

address human rights. <strong>The</strong> program helps <strong>to</strong> provide students <strong>the</strong> opportunity <strong>to</strong> design and conduct human<br />

In order <strong>to</strong> be eligible for an ASA Scholarship, you must meet <strong>the</strong> <strong>following</strong> criteria:<br />

o Must be <strong>of</strong> Armenian descent.<br />

o Must be enrolled as a full-time student and <strong>have</strong> completed one full year <strong>of</strong> academics at a four-year<br />

accredited U.S. college by June <strong>of</strong> 2006 OR must be enrolled in a two-year college and are transferring<br />

<strong>to</strong> a four-year college or university as a full time student in <strong>the</strong> Fall <strong>of</strong> 2006.<br />

o Must be a U.S. citizen OR must possess appropriate Visa status in order <strong>to</strong> study in <strong>the</strong> U.S.<br />

<strong>The</strong> AXA Achievement sm Scholarship in association with U.S. News & World Report provides $670,000 in<br />

annual <strong>scholarships</strong> <strong>to</strong> young people throughout <strong>the</strong> nation.<br />

State Winners<br />

Fifty-two winners, one from each state, <strong>the</strong> District <strong>of</strong> Colombia and Puer<strong>to</strong> Rico, are selected by our nonpr<strong>of</strong>it<br />

partner, Scholarship America, <strong>to</strong> receive one-time scholarship awards <strong>of</strong> $10,000 each.<br />

National Winners<br />

From <strong>the</strong> pool <strong>of</strong> 52 state winners, ten are selected as national winners and earn an additional one-time<br />

scholarship <strong>of</strong> $15,000. This brings <strong>the</strong> <strong>to</strong>p AXA Achievers <strong>to</strong>tal scholarship awards <strong>to</strong> $25,000 each. <strong>The</strong>se <strong>to</strong>p<br />

ten also receive a lap<strong>to</strong>p computer and <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>fer <strong>of</strong> an internship with AXA.<br />

Our <strong>scholarships</strong> winners are known as AXA Achievers. <strong>The</strong>y are ethnically and economically diverse, but <strong>the</strong>y<br />

share <strong>the</strong>se qualities:<br />

o Ambition and drive<br />

o Determination <strong>to</strong> set and reach goals<br />

o Respect for self, family and community<br />

o Ability <strong>to</strong> succeed in college<br />

Some <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> remarkable accomplishments <strong>of</strong> our AXA Achievers include: setting up a food bank in <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

community; designing a curriculum <strong>to</strong> get kids interested in science; founding a nonpr<strong>of</strong>it organization for<br />

young people that encourages community service and civic involvement.
