To be eligible for any AFSA Scholarship Program:<br />

Students must be claimed as dependent on <strong>the</strong> most recent IRS tax form by a US government Foreign Service<br />

employee (active, retired with pension, deceased or separated) who has served or is serving at least a year<br />

abroad with a foreign affairs agency as defined by <strong>the</strong> Foreign Service Act <strong>of</strong> 1980 (Department <strong>of</strong> State,<br />

USAID, USIA, IBB, Commerce Service or Foreign Agriculture Service).<br />

For an AFSA Financial Aid Scholarship, a student must:<br />

A. Attend or will be attending full-time (12 hours or more) as an undergraduate at an U.S. college, university,<br />

community college, post-secondary, art school, conserva<strong>to</strong>ry, etc. One year study abroad under <strong>the</strong> auspice <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> student's American college or university is allowed.<br />

B. Maintain a satisfac<strong>to</strong>ry academic record (2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale or C average).<br />

C. Complete his/her undergraduate degree in four years.<br />

D. Demonstrate financial need.<br />

For an AFSA Merit Awards (Academic and/or Art), a student must:<br />

A. Have at least one parent a member <strong>of</strong> AFSA or AAFSW.<br />

B. Be a high school senior.<br />

C. Maintain a satisfac<strong>to</strong>ry academic record (2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale or C average).<br />
