Financial Aid and Scholarship funds are granted to people who meet the specific criteria for each award and
may not be used for purposes other than what the award has stipulated.
Applicants must have been diagnosed with a moderate to profound hearing loss prior to acquiring spoken
language in the speech frequencies of 500, 1000, and 2000 Hz.
Applicants must include an audiological report.
For applicants with cochlear implants, the most recent MAPping report must be included to verify that the
hearing loss is moderate to profound.
Applicants must be committed to using spoken language as their primary mode of communication.

The ASF program is intended to encourage YMCA oriented students to seek a career with the YMCA by
awarding scholarships to deserving and qualified students. A second program administered in conjunction with
the ASF program is the Dollars for Scholars grants, which is to assist in developing the skills and knowledge
of YMCA Professionals and Staff members.
1. Students who are Y-oriented and need financial help to continue their studies.
2. Persons currently employed by the YMCA who need assistance to increase their training and proficiency.

3. YMCA's seeking trained professional staff.
4. YMCA members who are better served by professionally trained leadership.
Loan Policy: Scholarships received through the ASF Scholarship Committee are loans, which are forgiven if
the student enters YMCA employment after graduation. Grant recipients leaving YMCA service before the end
of the prescribed term of employment, will be required to repay all or part of their loan.
The above policy does not apply to grants made to YMCA staff for professional development courses or other
training through the Dollars for Scholars program.
Application deadline for the Fall semester must be postmarked by May 30, and for the Spring
semester postmarked by October.

Purpose: Scholarships provided for ELCA (evangelical lutherean church of america) women who are of an
ethnic minority in undergraduate, graduate, professional, or vocational courses of study. Must be at least 21
years old and hold membership in the ELCA. Must have experienced an interruption in education of two or
