Financial Aid and Scholarship funds are granted <strong>to</strong> people who meet <strong>the</strong> specific criteria for each award and<br />

may not be used for purposes o<strong>the</strong>r than what <strong>the</strong> award has stipulated.<br />

Applicants must <strong>have</strong> <strong>been</strong> diagnosed with a moderate <strong>to</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>ound hearing loss prior <strong>to</strong> acquiring spoken<br />

language in <strong>the</strong> speech frequencies <strong>of</strong> 500, 1000, and 2000 Hz.<br />

Applicants must include an audiological report.<br />

For applicants with cochlear implants, <strong>the</strong> most recent MAPping report must be included <strong>to</strong> verify that <strong>the</strong><br />

hearing loss is moderate <strong>to</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>ound.<br />

Applicants must be committed <strong>to</strong> using spoken language as <strong>the</strong>ir primary mode <strong>of</strong> communication.<br />

<strong>The</strong> ASF program is intended <strong>to</strong> encourage YMCA oriented students <strong>to</strong> seek a career with <strong>the</strong> YMCA by<br />

awarding <strong>scholarships</strong> <strong>to</strong> deserving and qualified students. A second program administered in conjunction with<br />

<strong>the</strong> ASF program is <strong>the</strong> Dollars for Scholars grants, which is <strong>to</strong> assist in developing <strong>the</strong> skills and knowledge<br />

<strong>of</strong> YMCA Pr<strong>of</strong>essionals and Staff members.<br />

1. Students who are Y-oriented and need financial help <strong>to</strong> continue <strong>the</strong>ir studies.<br />

2. Persons currently employed by <strong>the</strong> YMCA who need assistance <strong>to</strong> increase <strong>the</strong>ir training and pr<strong>of</strong>iciency.<br />

3. YMCA's seeking trained pr<strong>of</strong>essional staff.<br />

4. YMCA members who are better served by pr<strong>of</strong>essionally trained leadership.<br />

Loan Policy: Scholarships received through <strong>the</strong> ASF Scholarship Committee are loans, which are forgiven if<br />

<strong>the</strong> student enters YMCA employment after graduation. Grant recipients leaving YMCA service before <strong>the</strong> end<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> prescribed term <strong>of</strong> employment, will be required <strong>to</strong> repay all or part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir loan.<br />

<strong>The</strong> above policy does not apply <strong>to</strong> grants made <strong>to</strong> YMCA staff for pr<strong>of</strong>essional development courses or o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

training through <strong>the</strong> Dollars for Scholars program.<br />

Application deadline for <strong>the</strong> Fall semester must be postmarked by May 30, and for <strong>the</strong> Spring<br />

semester postmarked by Oc<strong>to</strong>ber.<br />

Purpose: Scholarships provided for ELCA (evangelical lu<strong>the</strong>rean church <strong>of</strong> america) women who are <strong>of</strong> an<br />

ethnic minority in undergraduate, graduate, pr<strong>of</strong>essional, or vocational courses <strong>of</strong> study. Must be at least 21<br />

years old and hold membership in <strong>the</strong> ELCA. Must <strong>have</strong> experienced an interruption in education <strong>of</strong> two or<br />
