U.S. nationals. In selecting <strong>the</strong> award recipients, <strong>the</strong> candidate's field <strong>of</strong> study and career objectives will be<br />

considered, as will <strong>the</strong> extent <strong>to</strong> which <strong>the</strong> candidate has demonstrated <strong>the</strong> commitment and potential <strong>to</strong> make a<br />

Any young person under <strong>the</strong> age <strong>of</strong> 18 who has completed an important piece <strong>of</strong> work in <strong>the</strong> fields <strong>of</strong><br />

Ma<strong>the</strong>matics, Science, Technology, Music, Literature, Philosophy or Outside <strong>the</strong> Box may apply <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

program. <strong>The</strong>y must also be prepared <strong>to</strong> describe <strong>the</strong>ir journey in developing <strong>the</strong> project and <strong>to</strong> explain its<br />

purpose and social relevance. Fellows are asked <strong>to</strong> make a commitment <strong>to</strong> help o<strong>the</strong>r highly intelligent students<br />

develop <strong>the</strong>ir own talents.<br />

<strong>The</strong> result is <strong>scholarships</strong> <strong>of</strong> $50,000, $25,000 and $10,000 <strong>to</strong> be used for tuition and expenses at an accredited<br />

institution <strong>of</strong> learning. <strong>The</strong>re is also an unforgettable trip <strong>to</strong> Washing<strong>to</strong>n, D.C. every September when Davidson<br />

Fellows are recognized and honored for <strong>the</strong>ir accomplishment. Since its inception in 2001, <strong>the</strong> program has<br />

awarded nearly $2 million in <strong>scholarships</strong>.<br />

To be eligible for consideration as a 2006 Davidson Fellow, applicants must:<br />

o Be a U.S. citizen residing in <strong>the</strong> United States, or a Permanent Resident <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> United States residing in<br />

<strong>the</strong> United States.<br />

o Be under 18 years <strong>of</strong> age as <strong>of</strong> Oc<strong>to</strong>ber 1, 2006. Individuals born on or before Oc<strong>to</strong>ber 1, 1988 are not<br />

eligible.<br />

o <strong>The</strong>re is no minimum age for eligibility.<br />

o Have completed a significant piece <strong>of</strong> work in one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> designated Application Categories.<br />

o Be available <strong>to</strong> attend, with at least one parent or guardian, <strong>the</strong> awards reception and o<strong>the</strong>r recognition<br />

events <strong>to</strong> be held September 2006 in Washing<strong>to</strong>n, D.C. (Travel expenses and lodging will be paid by <strong>the</strong><br />

Institute.)<br />

Applicants: Any undergraduate students who is a U.S. citizen; enrolled as a full-time student in <strong>the</strong> Fall 2006 as<br />

a junior at an accredited college or university within <strong>the</strong> United States or U.S. terri<strong>to</strong>ries; who possesses at least<br />

a cumulative 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale in all completed undergraduate courses and in <strong>the</strong>ir major<br />

field <strong>of</strong> study; and has declared a major in a NOAA-related discipline.<br />

Eligible undergraduates studying oceanic, environmental, biological, and atmospheric sciences, ma<strong>the</strong>matics,<br />

engineering, remote sensing technology, physical and social sciences including geography, physics, hydrology,<br />

geomatics, or teacher education that support NOAA's programs and mission are encouraged <strong>to</strong> apply.<br />
