than a career in private medical practice.
Yale applicants must have a grade point average of 3.7 or above and must be U.S. citizens, resident aliens, or
U.S. nationals. In selecting the award recipients, the candidate's field of study and career objectives will be
considered, as will the extent to which the candidate has demonstrated the commitment and potential to make a
significant contribution to his or her field. Financial need is not a criterion for selection.

Any young person under the age of 18 who has completed an important piece of work in the fields of
Mathematics, Science, Technology, Music, Literature, Philosophy or Outside the Box may apply to the
program. They must also be prepared to describe their journey in developing the project and to explain its
purpose and social relevance. Fellows are asked to make a commitment to help other highly intelligent students
develop their own talents.
The result is scholarships of $50,000, $25,000 and $10,000 to be used for tuition and expenses at an accredited
institution of learning. There is also an unforgettable trip to Washington, D.C. every September when Davidson
Fellows are recognized and honored for their accomplishment. Since its inception in 2001, the program has
awarded nearly $2 million in scholarships.
To be eligible for consideration as a 2006 Davidson Fellow, applicants must:
o Be a U.S. citizen residing in the United States, or a Permanent Resident of the United States residing in
the United States.
o Be under 18 years of age as of October 1, 2006. Individuals born on or before October 1, 1988 are not
eligible.
o There is no minimum age for eligibility.
o Have completed a significant piece of work in one of the designated Application Categories.
o Be available to attend, with at least one parent or guardian, the awards reception and other recognition
events to be held September 2006 in Washington, D.C. (Travel expenses and lodging will be paid by the
Institute.)

Amount: Awards up to $22,500 ELIGIBLE
Applicants: Any undergraduate students who is a U.S. citizen; enrolled as a full-time student in the Fall 2006 as
a junior at an accredited college or university within the United States or U.S. territories; who possesses at least
a cumulative 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale in all completed undergraduate courses and in their major
field of study; and has declared a major in a NOAA-related discipline.
Eligible undergraduates studying oceanic, environmental, biological, and atmospheric sciences, mathematics,
engineering, remote sensing technology, physical and social sciences including geography, physics, hydrology,
geomatics, or teacher education that support NOAA's programs and mission are encouraged to apply.
