Eligibility:<br />

Be a resident <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> States <strong>of</strong> New Hampshire or Maine*<br />

Be a currently enrolled degree candidate with a safety, health or environmental studies related major.<br />

Possess a cumulative grade point average <strong>of</strong> at least 2.5, and 3.0 in a safety or health related major.<br />

Filing <strong>of</strong> Application materials:<br />

Completed application by April 1<br />

Official transcript from College, minimum <strong>of</strong> three letters <strong>of</strong> recommendation from college instruc<strong>to</strong>rs,<br />

administra<strong>to</strong>rs, staff support services, and/or o<strong>the</strong>r pr<strong>of</strong>essional references.<br />

<strong>The</strong> selection <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> recipient(s) will be made by <strong>the</strong> Past Presidents Scholarship Committee. Recipient(s) and<br />

funds will be presented <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> recipient(s) at <strong>the</strong> Council Office in Westbrook, Maine or Concord, New<br />

Hampshire. Non-recipients will also be notified.<br />

*Residence or residency shall mean a person’s principal place <strong>of</strong> abode or domicile. Toe be eligible, a resident<br />

<strong>of</strong> ei<strong>the</strong>r state may attend college or university ei<strong>the</strong>r inside or outside Maine or New Hampshire.<br />

Statement <strong>of</strong> Purpose: In recognition <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> recreational and economic value <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Sebago Lake Watershed <strong>to</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> surrounding area, it is <strong>the</strong> aim <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Sebago Lake Anglers <strong>to</strong> nurture and honor <strong>the</strong> resource by encouraging<br />

fur<strong>the</strong>r education in a field that would promote <strong>the</strong> reservation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> resource. To that end, <strong>the</strong> Sebago Lake<br />

Anglers propose <strong>to</strong> <strong>of</strong>fer a small scholarship for <strong>the</strong> pursuit <strong>of</strong> college level education in Marine Biology or a<br />

related field. <strong>The</strong> scholarship would be awarded on an annual basis <strong>to</strong> a qualified, graduating senior <strong>of</strong> one <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> area high schools surrounding Sebago Lake. <strong>The</strong>se schools, all in school districts bordering Sebago Lake,<br />

would include Bonny Eagle High School (SAD#6 Bux<strong>to</strong>n, Liming<strong>to</strong>n, Standish, Steep Falls, and Sebago Lake);<br />

Lake Region High School (SAD#61 Bridg<strong>to</strong>n, Casco, Naples, Sebago) and Windham High School. Since <strong>the</strong><br />

Town <strong>of</strong> Raymond does not possess a high school, it would not participate in <strong>the</strong> program. In <strong>the</strong> event that a<br />

number <strong>of</strong> applicants qualify, each year's recipient would be selected from <strong>the</strong> schools on a rotating basis, for<br />

example, one from SAD#6 <strong>the</strong> first year, one from SAD#61 <strong>the</strong> <strong>following</strong> year, and Windham <strong>the</strong> third year.<br />

Qualifications for Consideration: To qualify for <strong>the</strong> Sebago Lake Anglers Scholarship, a graduating senior<br />

would <strong>have</strong> <strong>been</strong> accepted for study in an academically accredited undergraduate program in <strong>the</strong> study <strong>of</strong><br />

Marine/Environmental Biology, or a related field <strong>of</strong> higher learning Awarding <strong>the</strong> Scholarship: A scholarship<br />

committee would be formed by members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Anglers and would review a list <strong>of</strong> those candidates presented<br />

by <strong>the</strong> guidance direc<strong>to</strong>rs <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> area high schools. <strong>The</strong> recipient's name would be announced at <strong>the</strong><br />

commencement or award presentation <strong>of</strong> his or her high school. <strong>The</strong> actual scholarship would not be paid until<br />

<strong>the</strong> committee has received a grade report for <strong>the</strong> student's first semester and would be paid directly <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

college that <strong>the</strong> recipient is attending. <strong>The</strong> Scholarship: <strong>The</strong> scholarship fund will be administered by <strong>the</strong><br />

Scholarship Committee. <strong>The</strong> annual dollar amount <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> scholarship would not exceed $500.<br />

• Sylvan B. Phillips Trust Fund<br />

Who is eligible <strong>to</strong> apply? This fund provides financial assistance <strong>to</strong> aid "needy and worthy young men" living in<br />

Portland, Maine in obtaining a college education, particularly in full or in part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir tuition and/or rent.<br />

Scholarship amount: Varies. This year, up <strong>to</strong> $10,520 will be distributed.<br />

How are <strong>the</strong> <strong>scholarships</strong> awarded? Discretion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Trustees<br />

Who is eligible <strong>to</strong> apply? <strong>The</strong> scholarship will be awarded <strong>to</strong> dependents <strong>of</strong> employees <strong>of</strong> Wasco who are<br />

graduating from a Maine high school and <strong>have</strong> <strong>been</strong> accepted at an accredited institution <strong>of</strong> higher learning.
