Who is eligible to apply? Graduating high school seniors planning to attend a four-year accredited college in
Maine in the fall. Eligible applicants must live with their parents or legal guardians in Knox or Waldo counties,
the communities served by MSAD #1, #9, or #27 or the island communities of Chebeague, Cliff Island, Long
Island, Peaks Island, Frenchboro, Islesford, Cranberry Isle, Swans Island, or Monhegan. See website for

Scholarship amount: Each award is up to $7,500; renewable up to four years.
How are the scholarships awarded? Scholarships are based on demonstrated financial need and academic and
extracurricular merit.

• MELA On-Line Scholarship

Scholarship recipients must be current undergraduate or graduate college students or high schools seniors
planning to pursue a two or four year degree on at least a half-time basis. Unlike other scholarships available,
the MELA Web Scholarship is fast and easy, with no lengthy application necessary, no need to write an essay,
send recommendations or demonstrate financial need. This scholarship is offered to Maine residents or out of
state student planning to attend a Maine college or university, the chance to win $2,500. towards their college
education. Applicants sign up on the MELA website at and are entered into the drawings. MELA will select
one entry in July and another in January.
• Melmac Education Foundation
Scholarships given to individuals primarily in Maine. Last year 147 $1,000. grants were awarded.
