Who is eligible <strong>to</strong> apply? Graduating high school seniors planning <strong>to</strong> attend a four-year accredited college in<br />

Maine in <strong>the</strong> fall. Eligible applicants must live with <strong>the</strong>ir parents or legal guardians in Knox or Waldo counties,<br />

<strong>the</strong> communities served by MSAD #1, #9, or #27 or <strong>the</strong> island communities <strong>of</strong> Chebeague, Cliff Island, Long<br />

Island, Peaks Island, Frenchboro, Islesford, Cranberry Isle, Swans Island, or Monhegan. See website for<br />

additional requirements.<br />

Scholarship amount: Each award is up <strong>to</strong> $7,500; renewable up <strong>to</strong> four years.<br />

How are <strong>the</strong> <strong>scholarships</strong> awarded? Scholarships are based on demonstrated financial need and academic and<br />

extracurricular merit.<br />

• MELA On-Line Scholarship<br />

Scholarship recipients must be current undergraduate or graduate college students or high schools seniors<br />

planning <strong>to</strong> pursue a two or four year degree on at least a half-time basis. Unlike o<strong>the</strong>r <strong>scholarships</strong> available,<br />

<strong>the</strong> MELA Web Scholarship is fast and easy, with no lengthy application necessary, no need <strong>to</strong> write an essay,<br />

send recommendations or demonstrate financial need. This scholarship is <strong>of</strong>fered <strong>to</strong> Maine residents or out <strong>of</strong><br />

state student planning <strong>to</strong> attend a Maine college or university, <strong>the</strong> chance <strong>to</strong> win $2,500. <strong>to</strong>wards <strong>the</strong>ir college<br />

education. Applicants sign up on <strong>the</strong> MELA website at and are entered in<strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> drawings. MELA will select<br />

one entry in July and ano<strong>the</strong>r in January.<br />

• Melmac Education Foundation<br />

Scholarships given <strong>to</strong> individuals primarily in Maine. Last year 147 $1,000. grants were awarded.<br />

• Michaud Charitable Trust<br />

Scholarships only <strong>to</strong> high school graduates attending college in Maine. No application used as initial approach.<br />

No filing deadline. As <strong>of</strong> this notification date giving activities includes $13,000. for grants.<br />
