Who is eligible <strong>to</strong> apply? High school senior attending college for <strong>the</strong> first time as a freshman who are<br />

dependents <strong>of</strong> dues paying members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Maine State Employees Association or who are members <strong>the</strong>mselves<br />

attending college full or part-time. Criteria for awarding <strong>scholarships</strong> is based on financial need, scholastic<br />

Scholarship amount: 3 - $500 <strong>to</strong> MSEA members; 13 - $750 <strong>to</strong> $1,500 <strong>to</strong> dependents <strong>of</strong> dues paying members.<br />

How are <strong>the</strong> <strong>scholarships</strong> awarded? A Committee <strong>of</strong> MSEA members is appointed each year <strong>to</strong> screen<br />

applications and make awards based on financial need, scholastic ability, leadership, service <strong>to</strong> o<strong>the</strong>rs and<br />

four years; or <strong>have</strong> at least one parent who was born in or has <strong>been</strong> a legal resident <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> State <strong>of</strong> Maine for at<br />

least four years) who are under 25 years <strong>of</strong> age, already enrolled in a Maine college, <strong>have</strong> completed at least one<br />

year <strong>of</strong> college and <strong>have</strong> a GPA <strong>of</strong> at least 3.0.<br />

Scholarship amount: $1,000<br />

How are <strong>the</strong> <strong>scholarships</strong> awarded? Applicant must demonstrate depth <strong>of</strong> character, leadership, patriotism,<br />

seriousness <strong>of</strong> purpose, service orientation and high academic achievement.<br />

Application process: Essay, work sample and transcript. Recipient must attend college in Maine. Applications<br />
