Maine Education Services (MES) Foundation takes great pride in assisting several organizations in supporting<br />

Maine students who are pursuing post-secondary education. We are fortunate that so many Maine organizations<br />

believe in higher education and <strong>of</strong>fer financial support <strong>to</strong> deserving students. Pleased refer <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> MES website<br />

• Maine Recreation & Park Association Scholarship (MRPA)<br />

<strong>The</strong> Maine Recreation & Park Association is pleased <strong>to</strong> announce that two $750 Scholarships are available <strong>to</strong><br />

currently enrolled college sophomore-senior students majoring in a 4 year Recreation, Parks or Leisure Services<br />

curriculum or <strong>to</strong> non-traditional students seeking <strong>to</strong> continue <strong>the</strong>ir education in this field.<br />

Application deadline is April 1 st . Notification <strong>of</strong> scholarship award will be made prior <strong>to</strong> April 10 th .<br />

• Maine Rural Rehabilitation Fund Scholarship<br />

Requirements <strong>to</strong> Qualify: Student must be a Maine resident, and meet one or more <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>following</strong><br />

qualifications: a) at least 50% <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> applicant’s family gross income for <strong>the</strong> past year has <strong>been</strong> derived from<br />

farm and/or woodswork* occupation; b) applicant is a child <strong>of</strong> a deceased or physically impaired person who<br />

has operated a farm or has <strong>been</strong> employed in a qualifying woodswork occupation; and c) <strong>the</strong> applicant is a FFA<br />

member in “good standing” who plans <strong>to</strong> pursue a career in agriculture or woodswork.<br />

Applicant must be able <strong>to</strong> show that <strong>the</strong>e is an unmet financial need that must be overcome <strong>to</strong> pursue a higher<br />

education. Applicant who is presently enrolled in a post-secondary school must <strong>have</strong> a cumulative grade point<br />

average (GPA) <strong>of</strong> 2.7 or better or <strong>have</strong> a minimum GPA <strong>of</strong> 3.0 or better for <strong>the</strong> current semester or quarter.<br />

Applicant will not be considered for more than four years <strong>of</strong> undergraduate study <strong>to</strong>wards <strong>the</strong>ir first<br />

undergraduate bachelors degree.<br />

*Woodswork is defined as an occupation related <strong>to</strong> wood harvesting, transportation <strong>of</strong> pulp or logs, or farm<br />

operated saw mill, but does not include work as a salaried employee <strong>of</strong> a company (o<strong>the</strong>r than a company<br />

owned or controlled by <strong>the</strong> applicant’s family) engaged in <strong>the</strong> production <strong>of</strong> pulp, paper or o<strong>the</strong>r forest products,<br />

or <strong>the</strong> sale <strong>of</strong> services related <strong>to</strong> land or timber management.<br />

• Maine Society for Clinical Labora<strong>to</strong>ry Science<br />

THE MSCLS awards <strong>scholarships</strong> <strong>to</strong> students enrolled in <strong>the</strong>ir final year <strong>of</strong> a Medical Technology or Medical<br />

Labora<strong>to</strong>ry Technician program within <strong>the</strong> State <strong>of</strong> Maine. <strong>The</strong> number <strong>of</strong> awards and amounts vary yearly and<br />

are determined by <strong>the</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> Direc<strong>to</strong>rs <strong>of</strong> MSCLS. <strong>The</strong> <strong>scholarships</strong> are based on a combination <strong>of</strong> need,<br />

scholastic achievement, recommendations and an essay as submitted <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Scholastic Committee. Deadline is<br />

usually in May.
