You may qualify if:<br />

o You are 18, 19 or 20 years old; you are in foster care or<br />

o you were in foster care as a teenager and you are a US citizen or qualified non-citizen<br />

o you aged out <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> foster care system at age 18 or<br />

o were adopted from foster care with adoption finalization after your 16th birthday.<br />

o You <strong>have</strong> <strong>been</strong> accepted in<strong>to</strong> or are enrolled in a degree, certificate or o<strong>the</strong>r program at a college,<br />

university, technical or vocational school and you show progress <strong>to</strong>wards that degree or certificate.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Maine Fishermen's Forum Scholarship Fund was established for <strong>the</strong> benefit <strong>of</strong> immediate family members<br />

(son, daughter, grandson, granddaughter) <strong>of</strong> anyone actively participating in Maine's seafood industry.<br />

Undergraduates attending a two or four year college who are in at least <strong>the</strong>ir second year <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir program are<br />

eligible.<br />

Donations <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> scholarship fund are always welcome, and are tax deductible since <strong>the</strong> Maine Fishermen's<br />

Forum is a non-pr<strong>of</strong>it organization.<br />

MELA sponsor <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Maine Loan will continue <strong>to</strong> <strong>of</strong>fer Maine residents planning <strong>to</strong> attend an institution <strong>of</strong><br />

higher education in <strong>the</strong> US or Canada, OR out <strong>of</strong> state students planning <strong>to</strong> attend a Maine college or<br />

university, <strong>the</strong> chance <strong>to</strong> win $2,500 <strong>to</strong>ward <strong>the</strong>ir college education. Applicants sign up on <strong>the</strong> MELA website<br />

and are entered in<strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> random drawings. MELA will select one entry in July 2006 and ano<strong>the</strong>r in January<br />

2007. MELA Web Scholarship is fast and sasy - NO lengthy application necessary, NO need <strong>to</strong> write an essay,<br />

and are NOT required <strong>to</strong> send recommendations or demonstrate financial need.
