Who is eligible to apply? Must be a resident of the State of Maine, and enrolled in a dental school accredited by
the American Dental Association.
Scholarship amount: $500 to $1,000 (this amount may vary)
How are the scholarships awarded? The award is based on academic performance/essay (personal statement).
The scholarship is renewable.

• American Legion Auxiliary “The Education Chairman Scholarship”
On June 20, 2004 the American Legion Auxiliary Department of Maine developed a scholarship called “The
Education Chairman Scholarship” for post freshman students. Where as a need was observed and where as most
scholarships are designed and awarded to freshman students. The scholarship will be bestowed to a student
with “veteran’s affiliation” i.e., great grandparents, grandparents, parents, siblings, spouse or self who served in
the U.S. military. The amount of the scholarship will be determined by the funds raised by the Department of
Maine and will be awarded in May.

o Children and Youth Scholarships - seven, $500 scholarships.

Three (3) $500 scholarships.
Eligible students who are involved in the game of golf and who are pursuing further education in a
medical/health related field. The scholarships have been established by the American Lung Association of
Maine to recognize the golf courses who support the Golf privilege card and our efforts to promote lung health
in Maine communities. Criteria: Academic achievement, financial need, references, review of completed
application, personal interview and the applicant must be a non-tobacco user.
