• Alva S. Appleby Scholarship<br />

Who is eligible <strong>to</strong> apply? Must be a resident <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> State <strong>of</strong> Maine, and enrolled in a dental school accredited by<br />

<strong>the</strong> American Dental Association.<br />

Scholarship amount: $500 <strong>to</strong> $1,000 (this amount may vary)<br />

How are <strong>the</strong> <strong>scholarships</strong> awarded? <strong>The</strong> award is based on academic performance/essay (personal statement).<br />

<strong>The</strong> scholarship is renewable.<br />

• American Legion Auxiliary “<strong>The</strong> Education Chairman Scholarship”<br />

On June 20, 2004 <strong>the</strong> American Legion Auxiliary Department <strong>of</strong> Maine developed a scholarship called “<strong>The</strong><br />

Education Chairman Scholarship” for post freshman students. Where as a need was observed and where as most<br />

<strong>scholarships</strong> are designed and awarded <strong>to</strong> freshman students. <strong>The</strong> scholarship will be bes<strong>to</strong>wed <strong>to</strong> a student<br />

with “veteran’s affiliation” i.e., great grandparents, grandparents, parents, siblings, spouse or self who served in<br />

<strong>the</strong> U.S. military. <strong>The</strong> amount <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> scholarship will be determined by <strong>the</strong> funds raised by <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong><br />

Maine and will be awarded in May.<br />

Also available:<br />

o Children and Youth Scholarships - seven, $500 <strong>scholarships</strong>.<br />

o Daniel E. Lambert Memorial Scholarship - $1000. (two <strong>scholarships</strong> may be awarded contingent upon<br />

• American Lung Association <strong>of</strong> Maine Scholarship<br />

Three (3) $500 <strong>scholarships</strong>.<br />

Eligible students who are involved in <strong>the</strong> game <strong>of</strong> golf and who are pursuing fur<strong>the</strong>r education in a<br />

medical/health related field. <strong>The</strong> <strong>scholarships</strong> <strong>have</strong> <strong>been</strong> established by <strong>the</strong> American Lung Association <strong>of</strong><br />

Maine <strong>to</strong> recognize <strong>the</strong> golf courses who support <strong>the</strong> Golf privilege card and our efforts <strong>to</strong> promote lung health<br />

in Maine communities. Criteria: Academic achievement, financial need, references, review <strong>of</strong> completed<br />

application, personal interview and <strong>the</strong> applicant must be a non-<strong>to</strong>bacco user.<br />

• American Postal Workers Union <strong>of</strong> Maine (APWU) Maine State Scholarship Program<br />

Who is eligible <strong>to</strong> apply? An applicant must be <strong>the</strong> son, daughter, stepchild, or legally adopted child <strong>of</strong> an active<br />

or deceased member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> American Postal Workers Union <strong>of</strong> Maine (APWU) through local affiliation or<br />

member-at-large. Applicants must be high school seniors. <strong>The</strong> student's parent must be a member in good
