• NSDAR - National Society Daughters <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> American Revolution<br />

NSDAR awards <strong>the</strong> <strong>following</strong> <strong>scholarships</strong> through <strong>the</strong> DAR Scholarship Committee. All applicants must be<br />

citizens <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> US and must attend, or plan <strong>to</strong> attend, an accredited college or university in <strong>the</strong> US.<br />

Occupational <strong>The</strong>rapy Scholarship – a one time $500 scholarship for students who are in financial need and<br />

<strong>have</strong> <strong>been</strong> accepted or are attending an accredited school <strong>of</strong> Occupational <strong>The</strong>rapy including art, music or<br />

physical <strong>the</strong>rapy . Deadline February 15 th or August 15 th .<br />

Lillian and Arthur Dunn Scholarship – a $2,000 scholarship awarded for up <strong>to</strong> four years <strong>to</strong> well qualified,<br />

deserving sons and daughters <strong>of</strong> members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> NSDAR for four years <strong>of</strong> college. Outstanding recipients will<br />

be considered for an additional period <strong>of</strong> up <strong>to</strong> four years <strong>of</strong> study. DAR Member Number <strong>of</strong> mo<strong>the</strong>r must be on<br />

<strong>the</strong> Application. Deadline – February 15 th .<br />

• Portland Water District – Joseph A. DiPietro Memorial Scholarship<br />

Criteria:<br />

o Students must demonstrate financial need.<br />

o Students must live in PWD’s service terri<strong>to</strong>ry (Portland,South Portland, Westbrook, Windham, Gorham,<br />

Raymond, Cumberland, Falmouth, Scarborough, Cape Elizabeth).<br />

o Students must <strong>have</strong> a declared major that is related <strong>to</strong> PWD’s mission <strong>to</strong> protect public health and <strong>the</strong><br />

environment (e.g., environmental studies, sciences, engineering, medical, dental, trades, public<br />

administration).<br />

o Preference will be given <strong>to</strong> a student that attends or plans <strong>to</strong> attend an accredited college or university<br />

(Husson College, <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Sou<strong>the</strong>rn Maine, <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> New England, Sou<strong>the</strong>rn Maine<br />

Community College) in PWD’s member communities.<br />

o Scholarship will be given on a one-time basis; not "renewable."<br />

o Preference will be given <strong>to</strong> students who <strong>have</strong> an affiliation with <strong>the</strong> Portland Water District.<br />

o Preference will be given <strong>to</strong> students that demonstrate educational excellence through GPA, SAT,<br />

academic honors, etc.<br />

o Preference will be given <strong>to</strong> students that demonstrate a commitment <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> community through<br />

involvement.<br />

Deadlines: <strong>The</strong> $1,500 scholarship will be awarded annually <strong>to</strong> a deserving student. <strong>The</strong> scholarship<br />

committee, a sub committee <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> Trustees, will review applications in <strong>the</strong> summer and award <strong>the</strong><br />

scholarship in September.<br />
