Requirements for Application: Student must be in final academic year <strong>of</strong> an accredited pr<strong>of</strong>essional physical<br />

<strong>the</strong>rapy education program; must complete all degree requirements (clinical and didactic) and/or be eligible <strong>to</strong><br />

graduate; must show evidence <strong>of</strong> high scholastic achievement and evidence <strong>of</strong> contributions in <strong>the</strong> areas <strong>of</strong><br />

minority affairs and services; student must possess potential for pr<strong>of</strong>essional excellence as a physical <strong>the</strong>rapist,<br />

and must be a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> APTA.<br />

<strong>The</strong>re is a five-step application process necessary <strong>to</strong> be considered for scholarship (outlined in <strong>the</strong> cover letter<br />

and application packet).<br />

AMBUCS is an organization dedicated <strong>to</strong> creating independence and opportunities for people with disabilities.<br />

Scholarships also are awarded annually <strong>to</strong> occupational <strong>the</strong>rapy, audiology, and speech pathology students.<br />

<strong>The</strong> APTA’s long-standing relationship with AMBUCS-alone and as a member organization <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> TriAlliance<br />

(American Occupational <strong>The</strong>rapy Association, American Physical <strong>The</strong>rapy Association, and <strong>the</strong> American<br />

Speech, Language, Hearing Association)-has provided exceptional opportunities and experiences for PTs and<br />

APTA staff members. AMBUCS representatives <strong>have</strong> attended APTA’s Combined Sections Meeting and<br />

Annual Conference. APTA has sent physical <strong>the</strong>rapist representatives <strong>to</strong> attend and present at AMBUCS’<br />

annual summer meeting.<br />

<strong>The</strong> National AMBUCS, Inc. <strong>of</strong>fers <strong>scholarships</strong> <strong>to</strong> students (U.S. citizens) in <strong>the</strong>ir junior/senior year in a<br />

bachelor’s degree program, or a graduate program leading <strong>to</strong> a master’s or doc<strong>to</strong>ral degree. Awards range from<br />

$500 <strong>to</strong> $1,500 annually. <strong>The</strong>re is one two-year award in <strong>the</strong> amount <strong>of</strong> $6,000. Approximately $225,000 is<br />

awarded annually. Award monies are deposited each semester <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> student’s credit account with <strong>the</strong> financial<br />

aid <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> educational institution.<br />

Will accept applications from Mid-January until April 15.<br />

Who is eligible – fully trained Allopathic (MD) and Osteopathic (D)) physicians with <strong>the</strong> specialties <strong>of</strong> Family<br />

Medicine, General Pediatrics, General Internal Medicine, General Psychiatry, or Obstetrics/Gynecology;<br />

Primary Care Nurse Practitioners and Certified Nurse-Midwives; Primary Care Physician Assistants; Dentists<br />

and Dental Hygienists; and Clinical Psychologists, Clinical Social Workers, Psychiatric Nurse Specialists, and<br />

Marriage and Family <strong>The</strong>rapists.<br />

• National Health Service Corps – State Loan Repayment Program<br />

<strong>The</strong> National Health Service Corps State Loan Repayment Program is a part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> overall strategy <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> NHSC<br />

<strong>to</strong> improve access <strong>to</strong> primary and preventive health services for under-served communities and populations. <strong>The</strong><br />

NHSC provices funds directly <strong>to</strong> States for <strong>the</strong> operation <strong>of</strong> Loan Repayment Programs. <strong>The</strong> Federal<br />

Government and States provide a dollar for dollar match <strong>to</strong> assist in <strong>the</strong> repayment <strong>of</strong> qualifying educational<br />

loans for eligible participants.
