<strong>The</strong> program was created <strong>to</strong> assist students with <strong>the</strong> extraordinarily high cost <strong>of</strong> textbooks and study materials.<br />

Awards are open <strong>to</strong> individuals age 16 and older who are planning <strong>to</strong> attend or currently attending a two-year ,<br />

four-year, or voc/tech institution with <strong>the</strong> United States. Up <strong>to</strong> 15 awards are made each semester. <strong>The</strong> one-time<br />

award amounts vary from $100-$1000. Only one application need be submitted each academic year.<br />

Scholarship recipients are selected according <strong>to</strong> merit on a competitive bases. In addition, application must<br />

demonstrate career and academic potential measured by a combination <strong>of</strong> fac<strong>to</strong>rs, including past performance &<br />

career objectives. Winners will be notified by mail in September for <strong>the</strong> Fall awards and in January for <strong>the</strong><br />

Spring awards.<br />

**AQUACULTURE, AQUARIUM SCIENCE, MARINE BIOLOGY**<br />

• American Meteorological Society (from fields <strong>of</strong> atmospheric sciences, chemistry, computer sciences,<br />

engineering, environmental sciences, hydrology, ma<strong>the</strong>matics, oceanography, and physics)<br />

<strong>The</strong> AMS, in partnership with industry and government agencies, awards graduate fellowships for first year<br />

graduate students in <strong>the</strong> atmospheric and related oceanic and hydrologic sciences. <strong>The</strong> fellowships are intended<br />

<strong>to</strong> encourage outstanding students <strong>to</strong> pursue an advanced degree in <strong>the</strong>se fields. <strong>The</strong> fellowships are available <strong>to</strong><br />

students entering <strong>the</strong>ir first year <strong>of</strong> graduate school and are intended <strong>to</strong> permit maximum formal participation<br />

during <strong>the</strong> year. Prospective candidates from <strong>the</strong> fields <strong>of</strong> atmospheric sciences, chemistry, computer sciences,<br />

engineering, environmental sciences, hydrology, ma<strong>the</strong>matics, oceanography, and physics who intend <strong>to</strong><br />

pursue advanced degrees in <strong>the</strong> atmospheric and related oceanic and hydrologic sciences are encouraged <strong>to</strong><br />

apply.<br />

<strong>The</strong> AMS encourages applications from women, minorities and disabled students, traditionally<br />
