<strong>The</strong> Hartley Lord Scholarship ($1,000). <strong>The</strong>se annual awards are intended <strong>to</strong> help with <strong>the</strong> financial obligation<br />

<strong>of</strong> attending post secondary education for students interested in pursuing a course <strong>of</strong> study in a field that focuses<br />

on <strong>the</strong> well being and needs <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> senior members <strong>of</strong> our society. Such a field <strong>of</strong> study includes, but is not<br />

necessarily limited <strong>to</strong>, community service, eldercare, nursing or medicine.<br />

Any accredited post secondary degree or certificate program is eligible for consideration as long as it has some<br />

relationship <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> welfare <strong>of</strong> older citizens. Applications should be submitted no later than May 1. While<br />

applicants are free <strong>to</strong> submit any material <strong>the</strong>y wish in support <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir application, <strong>the</strong> only requirement is <strong>the</strong><br />

completed application and a letter <strong>of</strong> recommendation. Notification will be made in early June.<br />

Graduate and Undergraduate Criteria: <strong>The</strong> Health Research and Educational Trust <strong>of</strong> New Jersey (HRET), an<br />

affiliate <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> New Jersey Hospital Association (NJHA), believes it is particularly important <strong>to</strong> encourage and<br />

enable New Jersey residents <strong>to</strong> pursue health careers and, <strong>the</strong>refore, has established a scholarship fund <strong>to</strong> assist<br />

in meeting this need. Minorities and women are encouraged <strong>to</strong> apply.<br />

In recognition <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> rising cost <strong>of</strong> higher education, and in cooperation with HRET, <strong>the</strong> New Jersey Hospital<br />

Association will provide grants for financial support (minimum <strong>of</strong> $2,000 each <strong>to</strong> one or more applicants) <strong>to</strong><br />

selected students who are enrolled in <strong>the</strong> <strong>following</strong> programs:<br />

Graduate study in hospital or healthcare administration, public administration, graduate study in Nursing or<br />

o<strong>the</strong>r Allied Health Pr<strong>of</strong>ession; Junior or senior year undergraduate study in hospital or healthcare<br />

administration, public administration, Nursing or o<strong>the</strong>r Allied Health Pr<strong>of</strong>ession.<br />

Applicants must meet <strong>the</strong> <strong>following</strong> eligibility criteria:<br />

o Be a New Jersey resident;<br />

o Have <strong>been</strong> accepted in a graduate or undergraduate (junior and seniors only) program in hospital or<br />

healthcare administration or a graduate or undergraduate (junior or senior only) program in Nursing or<br />

Allied Health Pr<strong>of</strong>ession;<br />

o Have maintained a grade point average <strong>of</strong> at least 3.0 (on a 4 point system or equivalent);<br />

o Demonstration <strong>of</strong> financial need with a FAFSA document and financial aid application and/or federal<br />

tax return from <strong>the</strong> previous year.<br />

program in a school that is affiliated, through a participating pr<strong>of</strong>essional association, with <strong>the</strong> Federation <strong>of</strong><br />

Associations <strong>of</strong> Schools <strong>of</strong> Health Pr<strong>of</strong>essions. Deadline is February 1 st – student entries must be submitted <strong>to</strong><br />

faculty sponsors <strong>of</strong> designated <strong>of</strong>ficial(s) at participating schools.
