AMOUNT: Awards up to $22,500 ELIGIBLE
APPLICANTS: Any undergraduate students who is a U.S. citizen; enrolled as a full-time student in the Fall
2006 as a junior at an accredited college or university within the United States or U.S. territories; who possesses
at least a cumulative 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale in all completed undergraduate courses and in their
major field of study; and has declared a major in a NOAA-related discipline.
Eligible undergraduates studying oceanic, environmental, biological, and atmospheric sciences, mathematics,
engineering, remote sensing technology, physical and social sciences including geography, physics, hydrology,
geomatics, or teacher education that support NOAA's programs and mission are encouraged to apply.

The purpose of this scholarship is to financially aid students who are interested in a future major or majoring in
horticulture, floriculture, landscape design, conservation, forestry, botany, agronomy, plant pathology,
environmental control, city planning and/or other gardening related fields. Student must be a legal resident of
the State of Maine. Priority is given to a resident of the St. Croix District (Hancock County and the southern
part of Washington County. College sophomores are eligible, as they will be entering their junior year the
following fall. Application deadline is March 1 st , winners will be announced no later than May 1 st .

• Portland Water District – Joseph A. DiPietro Memorial Scholarship

Criteria:
Students must demonstrate financial need.
Students must live in PWD’s service territory (Portland,South Portland, Westbrook, Windham, Gorham,
Raymond, Cumberland, Falmouth, Scarborough, Cape Elizabeth).
Students must have a declared major that is related to PWD’s mission to protect public health and the
environment (e.g., environmental studies, sciences, engineering, medical, dental, trades, public administration).
Preference will be given to a student that attends or plans to attend an accredited college or university (Husson
College, University of Southern Maine, University of New England, Southern Maine Community College) in
PWD’s member communities.
Scholarship will be given on a one-time basis; not "renewable."
Preference will be given to students who have an affiliation with the Portland Water District.
Preference will be given to students that demonstrate educational excellence through GPA, SAT, academic
honors, etc.
Preference will be given to students that demonstrate a commitment to the community through involvement.
