program maximum of $8,000. The Educators for Maine forgivable loan is renewable if the recipient
metes certain academic performance requirements and completes a renewal application by the deadline
each year. Loans under the Educators of Maine Program can be forgiven for recipients who
subsequently become certified educational professionals at public schools or private schools approved
for tuition purposes by the State of Maine, or who attain childcare provider qualifications and
subsequently work in a childcare facility in Maine.
o Currently Enrolled Undergraduate Students: The educators for Maine Program is a competitive, meritbased,
forgivable loan program for students who are planning a career in education in Maine and do not
currently hold state certification. Any student who is a resident of Maine for purposes other than
education, who has NOT completed any bachelor’s degree, and has a most recent cumulative GPA of at
least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent), may apply for a forgivable loan under the Educations for
Maine Program. Students selected by the Educators for Maine Selection Committee may receive up to
$3,000 annually up to a program maximum of $12,000 for full time undergraduate studies. The
Educators for Maine forgivable loan is renewable if the recipient meets certain academic performance
requirements and completes a renewal application by the deadline each year. Loans under the Educators
of Maine Program can be forgiven for recipients who subsequently become certified educational
professionals at public schools or private schools approved for tuition purposes by the State of Maine, or
who attain childcare provider qualifications and subsequently work in a childcare facility in Maine.
