• Business Education Association <strong>of</strong> Maine<br />

<strong>The</strong> Business Education Association <strong>of</strong> Maine (BEAM) is awarding three $500 Scholarships. <strong>The</strong> <strong>following</strong><br />

<strong>scholarships</strong> are available:<br />

o Business Education Teacher’s Child or Ward Scholarship – is available <strong>to</strong> a business teacher’s child or<br />

ward who is in college or planning <strong>to</strong> attend college. <strong>The</strong> candidate need not be enrolled in a business<br />

program.<br />

o Two Business Teacher Education Training Program Scholarships – are available for students who are<br />

enrolled in a business education teacher program.<br />

• Cumberland County Retired Educa<strong>to</strong>rs Association Scholarships (11/06)<br />

Each year <strong>the</strong> CCREA awards three (3) $750 <strong>scholarships</strong>. <strong>The</strong> criteria is: Any student who has completed one<br />

semester at an accredited college, and majoring in Education or Nursing; must be a resident <strong>of</strong> Cumberland<br />

County, Maine and must submit a completed application form and resume. <strong>The</strong> resume must include:<br />

applicant’s name, mailing address, home address, telephone numbers, social security number; a review <strong>of</strong> past<br />

and present academic background (including a transcript <strong>of</strong> college grades, awards and achievements; a short<br />

essay stating reasons for choosing <strong>the</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>ession; three written character references (names and addresses<br />

included) from pr<strong>of</strong>essional and personal acquaintances.<br />

• Educa<strong>to</strong>rs for Maine Program - Forgivable Loan Program<br />

Educa<strong>to</strong>rs for Maine Program: Maine undergraduate and graduate students pursuing careers in education are<br />

applicable for $3,000 and $6,000, respectively, for <strong>the</strong>ir studies. <strong>The</strong>se are renewable loans forgiven by teaching<br />

in Maine public elementary and secondary schools upon graduation. Eligible recipients graduate in <strong>the</strong> upper 25<br />

percent <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir high school class, or graduate from college with a 3.0 GPA or above. Applicants may also <strong>have</strong><br />

a bachelor's degree in education with a minimum <strong>of</strong> a 3.0 GPA, or be planning <strong>to</strong> pursue graduate work leading<br />

<strong>to</strong> teacher certification.<br />

o Post-baccalaureate Students (beyond Bachelors Degree: <strong>The</strong> educa<strong>to</strong>rs for Maine Program is a<br />

competitive, merit-based, forgivable loan program for students who are planning a career in education in<br />

Maine and do not currently hold state certification. Any student who is a resident <strong>of</strong> Maine for purposes<br />

o<strong>the</strong>r than education, who has completed any bachelor’s degree but has not completed requirements for<br />

certification, and has a most recent cumulative GPA <strong>of</strong> at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or <strong>the</strong> equivalent),<br />

may apply for a forgivable loan under <strong>the</strong> Educations for Maine Program. Post-baccalaureate students
