To encourage entry <strong>of</strong> Hispanics in<strong>to</strong> oral health careers applications <strong>of</strong> 2006-2007 programs, applications<br />

available January, 2006.<br />

o HDA General Fund Scholarships for Hispanic men and women. Applicants, who must <strong>have</strong> <strong>been</strong><br />

accepted in<strong>to</strong> an accredited MPH or DPH program, are judged on demonstration <strong>of</strong> Commitment <strong>to</strong><br />

improving health in <strong>the</strong> Hispanic community, Scholastic Achievement, Community Service, and<br />

Leadership Skill.<br />

o Procter & Gamble Oral Care & HDA Foundation<br />

ENTRY LEVEL, ALL DENTAL PROFESSIONS, NATIONWIDE. Supported by P&G, this program<br />

awards numerous <strong>scholarships</strong> in amount <strong>of</strong> $1,000 and $500. Applicants, who must <strong>have</strong> <strong>been</strong> accepted<br />

in<strong>to</strong> an accredited dental, dental hygiene, dental assisting or dental technician program, are judged on<br />

demonstration <strong>of</strong> Scholastic Achievement, Community Service, Leadership Skill, Commitment <strong>to</strong><br />

improving health in <strong>the</strong> Hispanic community.<br />

<strong>The</strong> applicant must:<br />

• be enrolled in an accredited certificate or associate-level dental hygiene program in <strong>the</strong> United States;<br />

• <strong>have</strong> completed a minimum <strong>of</strong> one year in a dental hygiene curriculum prior <strong>to</strong> receiving <strong>the</strong> award -<br />

students entering <strong>the</strong>ir first year <strong>of</strong> dental hygiene school are not eligible, but students may be in <strong>the</strong><br />

process <strong>of</strong> completing <strong>the</strong>ir first year when application is submitted;<br />

• <strong>have</strong> a minimum dental hygiene grade point average (GPA) <strong>of</strong> 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) (cumulative GPA <strong>of</strong><br />

all courses required in her or his undergraduate dental hygiene curriculum);<br />

• be a full-time student during <strong>the</strong> academic year for which he or she is applying (e.g., fall 2006 <strong>to</strong> spring<br />

2007); and<br />

• be an active member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Student American Dental Hygienists' Association (SADHA) or <strong>the</strong><br />

American Dental Hygienists' Association (ADHA); and<br />

• be able (through his or her institution's financial aid <strong>of</strong>fice) <strong>to</strong> document a financial need <strong>of</strong> at least<br />

$1,500 by using <strong>the</strong> Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).<br />

Applicants not selected for this scholarship remain eligible for <strong>the</strong> ADHA Institute General Scholarships<br />

and for <strong>the</strong> <strong>following</strong> General Named Scholarships, named below, which are funded by private parties and<br />

whose recipients are chosen from applicants who do not receive a specific named scholarship:<br />

o Rebekah Fisk Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded <strong>to</strong> an outstanding applicant at <strong>the</strong> certificate,<br />

associate, or baccalaureate degree level.<br />

o Wilma E. Motley Scholarship: Personally endowed by this generous benefac<strong>to</strong>r, <strong>the</strong> scholarship is<br />

awarded <strong>to</strong> an eligible applicant at <strong>the</strong> baccalaureate degree level who has achieved a 4.0 grade point<br />

average in dental hygiene.<br />

Medicine, General Pediatrics, General Internal Medicine, General Psychiatry, or Obstetrics/Gynecology;<br />

Primary Care Nurse Practitioners and Certified Nurse-Midwives; Primary Care Physician Assistants; Dentists<br />

and Dental Hygienists; and Clinical Psychologists, Clinical Social Workers, Psychiatric Nurse Specialists, and<br />

Marriage and Family <strong>The</strong>rapists.
