• ADA Endowment and Assistance Fund, Inc. Minority Dental Student Scholarship Program The ADA Endowment and Assistance Fund, Inc. has as one of its charitable activities a scholarship program for minority dental students. This program was established to encourage students to seek or continue to pursue careers in dentistry. Applicants must be full time students. Full time status denotes a minimum of 12 credit hours. Criteria for eligibility is determined by the applicant’s demonstrated financial need, academic achievement and typed biographical sketch and two letters of reference. All applicants must be U.S. citizens. Applicants must be a member of one of the following groups: 1) African American, 2) Hispanic, or 3) Native American. The maximum annual award under the minority dental student scholarship program is $2,500. The number of scholarships awarded is dependent upon funds available. Program criteria is as follows: Minority Dental Student Scholarship – applicants must be entering second year, currently attending a dental school accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation; demonstrate a minimum financial need of $2,500; and must have accumulative grade point average of 3.0 based on a 4.0 scale. Swanson Scholarship http://www.adha.org/institute/Scholarship/index.htm The applicant must: • be enrolled in an accredited certificate or associate-level dental hygiene program in the United States; • have completed a minimum of one year in a dental hygiene curriculum prior to receiving the award - students entering their first year of dental hygiene school are not eligible, but students may be in the process of completing their first year when application is submitted; • have a minimum dental hygiene grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) (cumulative GPA of all courses required in her or his undergraduate dental hygiene curriculum); • be a full-time student during the academic year for which he or she is applying (e.g., fall 2006 to spring 2007); and • be an active member of the Student American Dental Hygienists' Association (SADHA) or the American Dental Hygienists' Association (ADHA); and • be able (through his or her institution's financial aid office) to document a financial need of at least $1,500 by using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
