<strong>The</strong> Division <strong>of</strong> Recruitment <strong>of</strong>fers two financial incentive programs for primary health care pr<strong>of</strong>essionals who are interested<br />

in practicing in one <strong>of</strong> our underserved communities. <strong>The</strong> State Loan Repayment Program is funded through <strong>the</strong> Federal<br />

Bureau <strong>of</strong> Health Pr<strong>of</strong>essions and <strong>the</strong> State and is solely for <strong>the</strong> purpose <strong>of</strong> medical educational loan repayment.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Recruitment and Retention Community Project (RRCP) is funded through <strong>the</strong> State and community and can be used for<br />

medical educational loan repayment, residency stipend, retention, sign-on bonus or o<strong>the</strong>r incentives <strong>the</strong> community may need<br />

<strong>to</strong> attract or keep a primary care physician, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, and/or certified nurse midwife. <strong>The</strong> RRCP<br />

cannot be used for salary supplementation.<br />

All incentive programs are subject <strong>to</strong> availability <strong>of</strong> funds.<br />

o State Loan Repayment Program (SLRP)<br />

$40,000 for a two-year commitment<br />

Two one-year extensions may be awarded for a maximum <strong>of</strong> $25,000 for each added year <strong>of</strong> service<br />

Practice site must be in a Health Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Shortage Area (HPSA)<br />

Employer must be non-pr<strong>of</strong>it<br />

o Recruitment and Retention Community Project (RRCP)<br />

This program provides dollars <strong>to</strong> a community <strong>to</strong> help recruit or retain a primary care provider for <strong>the</strong> community.<br />

<strong>The</strong> sponsoring organization must provide matching funds.<br />

$20,000 maximum for a one-year commitment (50/50 match)<br />

Three one-year extensions may be awarded<br />

WISCONSIN<br />

• Health Pr<strong>of</strong>essions Loan Assistance Program (HPLAP)<br />

<strong>The</strong> Health Pr<strong>of</strong>essions Loan Assistance Program is designed <strong>to</strong> provide incentives for physicians, dentists, nurse<br />

practitioners (NPs), physician assistants (PAs) registered dental hygienists (RDHs) and certified nurse midwives (CNMs) <strong>to</strong><br />

practice in Wisconsin rural and urban medical shortage areas.<br />

o PROGRAM BENEFITS<br />

• Physicians and dentists can receive up <strong>to</strong> $50,000* and PAs, CNMs, NPs, and RDHs can receive up <strong>to</strong><br />

$20,000* in loan repayment over a three year period, specifically:<br />

• Physicians and dentists can receive up <strong>to</strong> $50,000 and NPs, PAs, RDHs and CNMs can receive up <strong>to</strong><br />

$25,000 in loan repayment assistance over a three year period at <strong>the</strong> <strong>following</strong> rate:<br />

• In <strong>the</strong> first and second year, 40 percent <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> principal balance or a maximum <strong>of</strong> $20,000 for physicians<br />

and dentists, and $10,000 for o<strong>the</strong>r pr<strong>of</strong>essions.<br />

• In <strong>the</strong> third year, 20 percent <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> principal balance or a maximum <strong>of</strong> $10,000 for physicians and dentists<br />

and $5,000 for o<strong>the</strong>r pr<strong>of</strong>essions.<br />

*Award amounts can not exceed 75% <strong>of</strong> outstanding medical and school loans.<br />

o ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS<br />

• Physicians and dentists who are board-eligible or board-certified in <strong>the</strong> specialties <strong>of</strong> Family Practice,<br />

General Internal Medicine, General Pediatrics and Obstetrics can participate in <strong>the</strong> program.<br />

• NPs, PAs, RDHs and CNMs if <strong>the</strong>y are licensed, <strong>have</strong> <strong>the</strong> appropriate certification and will be practicing<br />

primary care in a primary-care setting.
