AHBAI is accepting scholarship applications from college-bound students through it's Fred Luster, Sr. Education Foundation. Scholarships will be awarded in the amounts of $250 and $500. Winners will be selected based on their academic achievement, school activities and extracurricular activities. To be eligible for a scholarship: Candidates must be college-bound high school seniors enrolled at a four-year college, majoring in chemistry, business or engineering. A minimum 3.0 grade point average (4.0 scale) and two letters of recommendation, proof of income (W2) are also required. The Fred Luster, Sr. Education Foundation was established by the AHBAI Board of Directors in 1991 in honor of the late Fred Luster, Sr., a founding AHBAI board member and founder of the Chicago-based Luster Products, Inc. This program is designed to encourage African-American, Hispanic, and American Indian students to pursue undergraduate degrees in the chemical sciences. The Society will award approximately 100 scholarships to undergraduate students pursuing four-year degree programs in chemical sciences; those interested in transferring from two-year colleges to four-year colleges to pursue chemical science degrees; and to two-year students intending to pursue degrees in chemical technology. High school students who will be entering college for the first time as undergraduate college students are also eligible. The fellowships are intended to encourage outstanding students to pursue an advanced degree in these fields. The fellowships are available to students entering their first year of graduate school and are intended to permit maximum formal participation during the year.
